I know how the interface of the unit works. I've got a disk with a handful of roms. By "interface," I meant the SNES tab of ucon64. You may want to try going into the frontend settings and changing the output directory to "." (without the quote marks.) That should output your RO...

In order to send files to the GDSF7, you first need to convert them to the GD3 file format in UCON64. Then, in the SNES interface, select the file and the GD3/6 button, then click send. Note that you need to have a parallel port driver enabled or else UCON can't interface with your copier.

Re: So, I want to build a website.

Can you still build websites for free? The last thing I knew about websites was using the program included in netscape or something like that to build them, I assume that's no good now, what should I do? Since you have GMail, there's a free service called Google Sites that's tied to your GMail acco...

I'm a big fan of Avast. It's free, reasonably light-weight, and has a skinnable interface. The default skin is pretty bad, but there are plenty of others that are easy to use. As a second line of protection, I'd suggest making sure that you keep Quicktime/Flash/etc patched up, and consider disabling...

RDP really doesn't play nice with DirectDraw. VNC and other remote protocols also either outright disable or just act flaky with graphcis acceleration. Just say no.

If you are a beginning programmer, you will probably find the complexity of the ZSNES code to be a bit intimidating. Two suggestions: first, try completing a smaller project that requires similar skills. Something that requires the use of timing-sensitive code would be useful. Second, it may be usef...

You may want to try forcing ZSNES to use a different sound driver.

E.g. zsnes -ad oss (for the oss driver), zsnes -ad sdl (sdl driver), or zsnes zsnes -ad alsa (alsa driver).

If you're running Windows, nearly all of those cards should be sufficient for dual monitor support and old DirectX or OpenGL 2.0 games. ATI no longer supports the 9550, so you'll have to use an old version of the Catalyst to get that model to work - I'm thinking 5.6 or so. If you are running XP, I d...

Re: Inadvertent HDD formatting = beating myself up for doing

The HDD I meant to delete the partition on was the wrong HDD! Yes, I did make backup DVDs here and there, but going through them one by one is awfully tedious, so, is there any good/free recovery software for accidentally formatted HDDs? You can try Recuva - http://www.recuva.com . It's made by the...

Set up Squid or some other proxy server on another system. You can send a fake browser agent from the proxy. Keep in mind that would be a bad idea(tm) for any sites that require https.

Fail, and wrong. 32bit windows is capable of hardware dep. Yeah, not going to lie, I was wrong there. I meant to say that Windows didn't force hardware DEP by default on 32-bit Windows, but that's also outdated information. So I fail on two accounts there. That being said, I'll stand by what I said...

Hardware-enforced DEP enables the NX bit on compatible CPUs, through the automatic use of PAE kernel in 32-bit Windows and the native support on 64-bit kernels. This isn't relevant. 32-bit Windows doesn't use hardware-enforced DEP. It does it using software. If you're running 32-bit Windows and hav...

After listening to certain audio sources for several minutes continuously, the sound suddenly becomes scratchy and crackly. Yes, that's a perfectly safe method of blocking websites. It just redirects any request to a particular domain name to your loopback adapter. The downside to that method is administrative overhead if you have a lot of computers or a lot of sites to block. If you can get things to work on your router...

Does your computer have more than one network interface? Windows XP will put an "unplugged" indicator in the network tray for each network connection, unless you check the box to hide it when unplugged. If one card is plugged in but the other is unplugged, you'll see one unplugged indicator.

This is probably an obvious suggestion, but have you tried a different patch cable? If one of the pairs is stretched or damaged, the cable may still be able to trigger the light on your NIC, but won't properly carry data. Are any of your other components functioning properly, e.g. your video card? I...
