My 500Mhz celeron machine (P3 celeron? what the crap?) runs Zsnes just fine. This includes such games as Star Ocean, with on-the-fly graphics decompression.

I used autopatching many times on 1.36, although I doubt I did prior to then. The checksum would always fail.

One, wrong forum. Two, forum search feature. Three, Zsnes 1.40 should be able to decompress the graphics automatically. It works for me. Just make sure you're not using 1.36, that you deleted old config, blah blah... Simple steps: Open Zsnes, go to load game window, scroll to Star Ocean.smc (or what...

You're going to *need* intelligence to understand what you're doing. Yes, young people have a shitload and a half of time, I know I do, but think about how many people use that time productively. Not many do. Plus, it takes more willpower than many have to spend that much time on one thing.
