Have you tried configuring with it? Means, press buttons on the controller to see if they get accepted. Do they work in Regen?
On Regen the controller is working fine.

On TurboEngine the controller buttons are auto pressing when I start Darius Plus (Japan) and 1943 Kai (Japan) when I use the controller option setup with 6 buttons. Up button stay press down on Darius Plus (Japan) while 1943 Kai (Japan) the start button keep pausing on and off. I change it back to default setting for the controller to work right. Might be the 6 buttons setup error. No telling what it really doing.

Most games only work with 3-button controller and will work incorrectly if you use 6-button controller.

I really hope this is the right thread for this...

Just found/started using Turbo Engine, it's a pretty darn good emulator from what I've seen so far. I just wanted to ask about a couple of problems/concerns I have. Is there any way to manually choose what button on your controller does what or do you have to let it automatically choose for you? Reason being is that I have a Playstation 2 controller I use for most of my emulators and I can't get it to work only the keyboard.

Second thing on my mind was the Cheat function. Reading through the thread and looking at the emulator itself it does seem there is a cheat function, but I can't find anything to use it with. I couldn't find any cheat files looking on the internet save for the ones linked in here to Magic Engine. Did you ever work out a method of converting them? Or should I literally make a file that says:

[1]Invincible
0=off
1=on,address:data

..as it shows in the ReadMe file. I'm sorry if this was answered somewhere and I missed it or if this is the wrong location. I realize that maybe it's not a big deal to most people, but I like playing these things for relaxation and enjoyment, so yeah, the ability to use cheats/codes is definitely a priority for me. :p

I just wrote a converter that can convert MAME/MESS XML cheat files to Turbo Engine cheat files. But due to a little bug in cheat code (again  ), cheats files don't work correctly.

I'll be posting both the converter and fixed Turbo Engine soon.

EDIT:
On a second thought, I should fix SPTI CDROM driver and then post.

Link to cheat files please. :)

EDIT:
Nevermind. Found them.

EDIT2:
It appears that MAME/MESS has all of the cheats ME has plus more. So I don't think a converter for this would be any useful.

Yes, even more than those. The MAME/MESS cheat file is from the same guy who has made all those codes above. Why don't you check out yourself.

Complete localization/translation support has been added as well. You can translate anything including messages, dialog, menus etc.. Cheating support was fixed and a converter is now available to convert from MAME/MESS XML cheat format to Turbo Engine’s cheat DATs from here. A few other things have been fixed and added as well.

This is a small update. Only some front-end feature have been fixed/added.
No emulation related changes have been made.

* On Win2k/XP/Vista, IOCTL is used to handle CDROM now. This means you don't
need ASPI manager (wnaspi32.dll) anymore on those operating systems.
You can however still enable ASPI if you want by modifying "TurboEngine.ini"
and setting "ForceASPI=1". On 9x/ME systems, it'll use ASPI automatically.

* Cheats fixed (again). A cheat converter is also available on my homepage
which can convert cheats from MESS/MAME's XML to Turbo Engine's cheat DATs.

* Complete localization/translation support (including dialog boxes).
See the "Localization.txt" in "Languages" folder for information on translating.
If you do a translation, please please and PLEASE do submit them to me. ;)

* Turbo Engine now warns for unconfigured BIOS while loading CDROM games.

* CD ripping works in another thread so that the GUI is updated and emulator doesn't
get freezed until ripping is finished.

* Added command line support. The syntax is:

  "TurboEngine [--fullscreen] path_to_rom.[bin,pce,zip,7z,cue,iso]"

* Fixed some crashes. Improved stability a bit (hopefully).

* Increased speed. Now it should be a little faster (but don't expect too fast).
A lot more is still to be done in this area :) .
As always, download from here

EDIT:
You can get MESS PCE/TG16 cheats from here. Use any of the XML file with the converter to generate TE16 cheat DATs.

Why not add RAR support :)

Blargg's lib handles that.

Disable sound doesn't work if you minimize the window, or put the window out of focus. :P Sound re-enables itself.

Download the TG16 ones.

Hmm....doesn't happen here. Do you have auto-pause on?

Works here on Windows 7 RC. <nitpick> (There is no other RC, so it's pointless to say RC1.)

Also, there seem to be some issues with the about box:

Wrong scaling on the icon, text overflow. Note that I'm using the default DPI setting of 96, so it's not being scaled up for my screen settings.

</nitpick>

It works fine on 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate RTM/Final too. I can confirm the cut off part in the About dialog too. :P

Strange. Sounds like incorrect DLL. Try these ones. Also, what CPU do you have? *prays that its not an AMD*

EDIT:
If above solution doesn't work, try this binary.

The only thing that seems to have changed is that this is now compiled against the static runtime (/MT) instead of dynamic (/MD). The dialog is unchanged.

Code: Select all

Version 0.31a

Quick and small update:

* Fixed a problem that prevented Turbo Engine from running on some AMD
  CPUs.

* Fixed a linking problem in compiler which caused Turbo Engine to fail
  to load on some computers.

* Fixed part of "About" dialog box text getting cut-off.

* Reverted back a change I made in Tremor (OGG decoder) which caused
OGG playback to completely fail in release builds.

I was statically linking it (/ML) but due to some symbol conflicts with another library, MSVC seemed to silently link with MSVCRT as well.
