Software (and drivers) are always being tested in some way shape of form, and there are some reasonable expectations for them to operate (as in, you wouldn't distribute it if it didn't work properly), but to go to a retarded extreme is truly clueless. For beta software, it would be retarded if you released something that truly did fuck with your system. That would never go over well. Bugs are meant to found, and despite EULAs that say "software is not responsible if your system burns down", your software suffers in reputation. Then again, people who manage to screw themselves by themselves in some unimagined method are the exception and can always be ignored.
