Hmm, I can't seem to commit the CHM to CVS. Checking it out will get me a corrupted CHM. Anyone have any idea why?

What CVS tool are you using?

A commandline CVSNT. It has had problems committing images as well.

You need to get it to commit in binary mode. I'm not sure how to do that; TortoiseCVS, what I use, seems to do it automatically.

I'm not sure how to do that either, so do you think you could commit the CHM to the /chm folder in zsnes-docs-dev with TortoiseCVS? :) I'd appreciate if you'd commit the images as well into /unified/images (see Current to-do list thread). :) Thanks.

Don't worry, IceFox. I just committed the CHM, and it works fine now. :)
You may need to delete your "chm" folder to get the new file working properly; that's what I had to do (after committing).

Thanks, it works. :)

Are the images broken for you, too? Maybe you should re-commit those as well. :)

Yes, they are. I can put up the images, too, but I think I may do some resizing/editing of the pics first, just so each have consistent height and width for the dimensions. ;)

BTW, I use TortoiseCVS. I tried the command-line program first but decided it wasn't worth the time (or frustration) it would take to learn how to use it. TortoiseCVS is incredibly easy to use; maybe you should try it. :)

I've tried using TortoiseCVS before, but could never get it to work. Not sure if the build I had was buggy or what.

I've tried it too, and also couldn't get it work. :/ My commandline version works for the .htm and .txt files at least, so I'll stick with it. :)

I just checked out latest CVS for the CHM.

I'm not exactly impressed, and here's why:

Anyone know what the problem is exactly?

I think the new help file looks great, in both content and presentation.

For one thing, that's not the CHM in the latest CVS. The latest CHM has the "DOS Port Error Codes" section removed from both the Readme and the navigation.

Second, maybe it's an inconsistency with your Linux CHM viewer? It works just fine for me using the MS CHM viewer.

It was the latest in CVS when I posted that.

Same problem with the one added 10 hours ago.

Um...
Why?

Worked with previous versions of the CHM.
All other CHMs I have work fine.

Revision 1.8 of the CHM in CVS is the last one that seems to work for me in xCHM.

What was changed then exactly?

Hmm, that looks pretty bad. Obviously Windows works perfectly otherwise I would have seen this issue and reported it straight away. There must have been a commit in the last 3 weeks since version 1.8 that broke everything.

What would be best is to create a series of compiles between v1.8 and v1.9 adding newer revisions as they come. As soon as the layout messes up or things disappear etc. there is the problem. I'm guessing style.css is causing it. From the screenshot I can't tell what is the problem. All the pages should be standards compliant now...

Well, we decided to move that info to the FAQ. Seems more appropriate there IMO, since it's related to troubleshooting stuff.

Actually, I probably broke something in the GUI page while creating a new section. :( That shouldn't affect the other pages though.

SF really needs to start offering Subversion repositories.

Look on the status page to see how their conversion to Subversion is going.
Last I checked it said they were in the testing stage.

Just a comment about the CHM:

Is the search feature particularly useful? I'm not so sure if the documentation is big enough to need it; we don't have several different topical sections in the documentation. :?

Removing the search feature would reduce the CHM filesize as well...

I think search is extremely useful.

For example, opening the FAQ and just searching for joystick.

Even though we don't have that many pages, the search feature will highlight the key words in the text so it's easy to find stuff. I'm used to the find feature with FireFox so I thought this was the nearest thing.

Clements, weren't you around when we discussed it and thought it better to include the images? Here is the conversation, summed up in a single post.

I hide the footer in the Help file anyway, and that was agreed long before since Firefox images in the Help file made no sense. Including them is pointless, only bloats the file size since they are impossible to view.

In the web-based HTML docs, leave them.

By the way, Nach, does the CHM still display incorrectly in your CHM viewer?
