256x224 with 256x240 resolution monitor

Post by walktofreedom »

Hi Guys. I'm in the process of organising the front end for my cabinet. I'm setting up zsnes with HyperSpin. I have a modified CRT uses (RGB) and ArcadeVGA. I have figured out that the best resolution (please correct me if I'm wrong) for SNES is 256x224. The video card has a 256x240 res but not 256x224. This setup works fine, however if I set zsnes to 256x224 the window size is 16 lines less so I see other apps underneath (in my case Hyperspin) I was wondering if there is a way to output at 256x240 with the window at 256x224 centred with a 8 line black border top and bottom. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks!

The best resolution for snes emulation is 640x480:
- the system-side horizontal resolution is meaningless, as it doesn't have square pixels. snes games were output in 4:3 with the magic of analog stretching.
- maximum vertical resolution is 478. Closest nonretarded standard is 480.

Hi. Thanks for the info. In the end I tried snes9x and got it to work at 256x240 with the image filter forced to 1x and the video mode set to Direct Draw. It looks great. I tried it at 640x480 but to my eyes the picture quality looked inferior due to the interlacing and stretching.

DirectInput represents all bits, not just powers of 2 in an axis.

Why is that? Is it one of those higher res SNES games?

But only the menus. And they definitely need it.
