Lost my game

I was playing Super Mario RPG on ZSNES and I saved the game using the in -game save feature. When I went back the next day to try to play, the new saves were gone and only an old save from an earlier game remained. No idea what happened or why my new saves weren't there. Is there any way to get them back? I also saved once using "save state", and at first it was on there but then even that was gone and replaced with an old save from a different game! Is this common and is there any way to fix it? Thank you.

sounds like you've managed to run zsnes from two different working directories. do you launch zsnes by double-clicking a ROM file from Windows?
