Nothing is stopping anyone from forking zsnes. Some people have done that with SNES9x. These recent "official" releases of SNES9x are actually not official, but none of the original authors have said no to them.

Of course, but the real question is, are there people interested?

Happy New Year, I guess, and Zsnes' main programmer has gone silent, what a way to start 2018

Fork it and make your own release. We're sick of your bitching.

Nah, I'm good. And who is this "we" you speak of? As far as I can tell, there are very few people lurking on here these days.

Let me just learn C and C++ for the next several years, and then I'll come back and make a fork. Sound good?

It is the royal we.

Also, don't forget x86 assembly. We await news of your progress with bated breath.

Ah yes, of course, nothing makes your day better than by learning pure machine code x3

x86 assembly is FUN, though! It isn't like a more straightfoward architecture!

Sure, why should I waste my time trying to find a job to financially support myself when I can dink around with pure ASM, getting an aneurysm trying to figure it out?

I heard that Zsnes was in fact the Mary Queen of Scots

"I think she's dead..."
"No I'm not"

*gunshot*

"Ahhhhhhhh!"

Zsnes is now Monty Python canon

I prefer the Men in Black homage, just because it isn't overdone to hell and back and back to hell again.

Ha, fair enough I suppose. But yeah, shame the author hasn't made an appearance in some time, and the IRC channel not working.

I was just reading the thread and *almost* everything makes sense.
The thing I don't understand: Why is it that people wants to have sustained development on zsnes? it is a fairly mature project and does a good emulation.
I can't think of any new features, netplay was the last thing I wanted (and was added) from zsnes.

Here's the thing: It may be a fairly long lived project, but it is in no way all that accurate. Its timing model only barely works, and only because the original hardware was already fairly asynchronous.

Even Snes9x has long since surpassed it in accuracy and stability. It's also fast enough to run on even some older systems, and as such should probably be the first choice of most users nowadays.

Higan is also capable of running all commercially released titles, except that stupid exercise bike thing I think, mainly because it would be nearly impossible to get a hold of one to document how it signals the console. Unless I missed the boat on that one. It's an excellent choice, if you have a fairly passable CPU in your machine, and like blowing loads of CPU power in the name of accuracy.

Pretty sure the Exertainment is still unemulated.

Hey, those clock cycles won't burn themselves.

Post Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
I suppose the main reason behind Pagafault's disappearance is related to his current job: emulation is considered akin to piracy by many IT companies and If you sign a contract with them they put a clause in it that forbids you to be involved in any pirate activity until the contract lasts.
I remember when Sardu from bloodlust software was forced to abandon Callus (his CPS-1 emulator) when he was hired by EA.
I suspect the same thing happened to Pagefault (tried to find him on linkedin knowing his real name but it's quite a common one and nobody puts the work on an emulator as a working experience considered what stated above).
BTW, it happened to Zsknight (working for a small software house developing consolle videogames) and _Demo_ (working for the big G), so I doubt we will hear of them again in the emulation scene (Zsknight is also on twitter and never mentions emulation in his posts).

ooh well..
as they say all good things come to an end...
at least ZSNES still works on Windows 7...
but I moved on to Higan by Byuu..
but its updates often break the savestates...
and Higan and BSNES does not have a cheat finder hex/decimal search engine...
