Problems running emulators

I have had a problem running NES and SNES emulators including ZSNES. The game stutters every few seconds. How can I get the games to play smoothly?

Disable all unnecessary background services and applications. Also, consider using the high priority option in the emu options... but it shouldn't come to that.

Usually the most intensive background app that consumes an inordinate amount of resources is a virus scanner.
