ZSnes is not dead, it's, uhm... resting. Yes, until the starts align in the correct position.
What?

Until the stars align and it wakes from its long slumber, and ending the age of man.

DirectInput represents all bits, not just powers of 2 in an axis.

one of the things mentioned in that 1.53 changelog is the removal of directdraw, which nearly makes me cringe.
I know for sure the most recent versions of higan and snes9x still have directdraw support but not chosen by default.

zsnes isn't the only emulator taking a decade long break. Regen (the sega genesis emulator) is also reaching that point; hasn't been an update for that one since 2009.

Why does it make you cringe? Will you be losing support for running a decade old emulator on your decade old operating system and apparently also decade old computer? I always assumed that people who chose to use old hardware naturally wanted to continue using obsolete software as well. Supporting dead-end hardware and dead-end operating systems does not make sense for new software, unless you just really love tinkering with that old stuff so much.

In that case, perhaps it is time to revive the DOS port, and drop the others. And it's fast enough that people who want to continue to use it on Windows, macOS, and Linux can run it under Dosbox. Surely a DOS port would be way faster than mere DirectDraw on your potato box.

Directdraw isn't all that great, why does its removal make you cringe?
