Earthbound in zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) not starting

I can make it go to the screen for Select New Game, and I can move the arrow key from the save file options, but no matter what I press, it won't start the game. Is this Earthbound or zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator)? Does anyone know how to get this to work?
