joebells wrote:aye carumba thats not fair at all though to compare newegg prices to apple prices. Then you can't just say apple charges an exorbatant amount you have to say they all do Dell and HP and everyone else do the same ridiculous markups. So your comments deriding apple for their high prices need to be reworked to include all OEM's instead of unfairly blasting just apple and making it sound like they are the only one.
Most OEMs engage in "upgrade" overcharging during the configuration process, but I've seen base system deals at Dell where you would be hard pressed to build a system yourself for cheaper. I seriously doubt you can find the same for Apple, their base prices are exorbitant to begin with.

I hear people say that this is illegal. That's false.
It's against the license agreement, not the law.
And violating the license agreement would be a breach of contract.
Which is illegal.

It also, coincidentally, immediatly voids your license. Meaning you're no longer legally entitled to use the software.
(Read your license. You don't own the software, just a license to use it. Void the license and you own nothing.)

oh yeah the 400sc was a steal a few years ago. I payed, after sending the hard drive back to dell(that was nice I think they gave me like 50 or 100 bucks for the I think 40 gig hard drive that was included, I don't think they let you send the base parts back anymore), a 175 for a p4 2.8. That was a pretty dang nice system at the time. Same motherboard as their xps gaming systems.

But I still hold that generally dell and apple and other oems are pretty close price wise these days, if you look at similar specced systems, as I said. You can of course get cheaper systems from dell and others but they generally aren't as good a system(spec wise and/or even sometimes quality wise).

The mini is appealing to those who want something tiny. The minuet is still a good amount larger than the mini. That mini really is tiny. I wouldn't buy it, I think its a bit over priced personally, but lots of people love them.

Nope. This one.

Anyway, I've been switching to Linux about the time Ubuntu Dapper came out and I didn't find anything (except games, apparently) I couldn't do on Linux and so I decided to stay there. Can't say I'm sad about that decision. There is a load of good emulators for Linux and most of my games are console games, anyway. A few months ago I got myself a Mac mini. I know, it's overpriced and stuff, but it does what I want it to do, and it does it well. I can even upgrade it without voiding my warranty, as far as I know. Unless I break it in the process, that is.

Anyway, my point is this: If you got to the point of liking Linux, you'll love a Mac, because it does everything Linux can, only better. From an Ubuntu user's point of view, it is basically the same range of features, only better integrated and smoother. Sure, Linux will eventually catch up, but they still have a lot of cruft that comes with X and most libraries and last, but not least, the driver situation is simply not satisfying. See ATI vs EXA/OpenGL/AIGLX.

The main reasons I think Mac OSX is superior to Windows are these:

- Proper rights management (yes, you can do a lot in user space) - found in Linux, as well
- Easy installation and removal of programs (except for programs with shady "installers") - I would have preferred the Debian way
- easy to use, but still powerful interface structure, especially when configuring stuff like Mail accounts or wireless networks - Linux could o better here
- beautiful, but fast and rock-solid graphical user interface with years of experience in usability (except for the few bad design choices introduced in Leopard) - X11 is a hack

Anyway, I think we got a little too off-topic, here. One question: byuu, could that possibly mean an own Mac port of bsnes?

EDIT: Dang, his post took too long ;)

That is fucking funny there. :D The videos.

Heh... If Mac and Linux are just a like then I don't want Linux anymore.

Well, as far as I know, Mac OSX is based off FreeBSD and uses Darwin.

yeah osx is based off of a bsd of some sort for sure, believe it is freebsd, and darwin is what they call the base of osx. So it is a UNIX and actually has the full UNIX certification now. Linux is UNIX like but isn't the same. UNIX is the original and linux came along and was/is essentially a clone of UNIX.
