Random slowdowns

Post by ice.2 »

I have the latest release of zsnes, but sometimes while playing I experience random slowdowns and choppyness. It's completely random and happens in every game. Somebody told me that random slowdowns happen on dual core machines, but I set the affinity of zsnes to 1 core and it still happens.

Here is my system setup

Windows vista ultimate 64 bit
4gb ram
e6700 core 2 duo
geforce 8800gtx evga 768mb
x-fi extreme gamer sound card

Try SnesGT 0.230 Alpha 0 or Bsnes v0.17 (for speed reasons or until some speed optimizations are made in future releases).

I'm not seeing any such issues on Vista Ultimate 32-bit with lower-end hardware (E6300/G965/2GB/HD3870/HD audio). I would expect this to either be a 64-bit Vista quirk or (more likely) some other process running in the background wreaking havoc with your performance.

The usual suspects are antivirus/spyware programs, network applications (BT and other P2P), and malware (viruses, worms, spyware etc).

It should go without saying that any other intensive applications such as video rendering/encoding have a decent likelihood of impacting performance in other programs as well.
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

Well, I just said it to avoid complications. Bsnes v0.28 does not run full speed on my PC, yet version 0.17 does. I intend to use this until speed optimizations can be made or until Zsnes 2.0 (or whatever the next version's called)comes out. So, yes, it's just an easy answer for a temporary issue. This is my opinion and others will likely disagree with me, so forgive me for ranting.

It's nicer if you allow people posting ZSNES solutions before suggesting another emu. That's just courtesy.
