Improved experience on ver142?

Post by Sylence »

I had an issue with zsnes today trying to play Kirby's Dreamland 3. I was attempting to play it on version 151 but the game seemed a little more glitchy than I remember. Eventually I got to a part in the first level where there was supposed to be water in the foreground (graphics layer 3), but the water layer was completely on top of the other graphic layers, so I couldn't see what I was doing. Then the game froze up here. I checked the settings and reset the emulator config back to default, but the problem was still there. I was even more baffled because I remembered playing this game on zsnes a long time ago without any problem. So I started downloading older versions of zsnes to see if somehow a previous version would run it by default. I got to ver142 now, which runs it fine. The graphics are correct, and I'm having to use this version to play it.

I imagine there was something in the configuration of 151 that I did not enabled in order for the game to play correctly, but I couldn't figure out what. Moreover, it's puzzling that a previous version of the emulator has this enabled by default, but the newer version doesn't. I just wanted to bring this to the attention of people here. Perhaps it might be worth reconsidering the default emulator settings for future versions, since at least in my case, an older version's default setting was actually more compatible. I may be wrong, of course; as I said, I could'nt figure out what was the problem and maybe it was something I could have easily enabled in the graphic settings. If someone does know, or has an idea of what I might be missing in the game settings, please let me know. I -am- interested in being able to use the latest version of zsnes.

Apologies if this post is in the wrong section of the board. I made my best guess, since there's no section dedicated to compatibility. Feel free to move this thread if appropriate.

Thank you

It is a known issue with 1.51, use v1.42 for the time being.

Or you could try another emulator in the mean time.

wasn't complaining, was just saying i had never noticed that it wouldn't load kirby, or other SA1 games.

i only use zsnes for the games that don't work or have issues in snes9x anyway these days.

That's why I use SnesGT, but that's merely my two cents. I use it because it emulates SuperFX and SA-1 well...until Zsnes 2.0 comes out.
