Game Genie code trouble...

So I'm playing Secret of Mana, and I decide to start using Game Genie codes.

I put it one for invincibility and I find that the code isn't working.

So I check the internet and it says that you should reset the game in order for the game to work, so I try that. Code still isn't working.

So I check again and find another tip, make sure you're using the correct version of the game.

So I use every code for every version, and each version doesn't work. Any idea what's going on?

The nearest code I managed to find that actually works is:

8208-776D Protection from most hits (Switch off to kill enemies)

Not all cheat codes are verified, despite all the precautions that have been mentioned here. Don't blame us for codes that don't work, because they wouldn't have worked on the real thing either.
