HQ3X choppy, HQ2X good

Post by KingKirby »

I don't even know what the shit HQ2X and HQ3X are, but I'm on the 8/3/04 wip and I just discovered this new video mode and I'm like oooo it's so pretty, but then something happened that killed my almost hardon.

I was loading up various games to see how splendid they looked, and noticed that in many games, the screen would be sluggish and choppy while scrolling. Games like FF3(6), Lufia 2, and EVO. The only thing that was choppy was the scrolling of the screen as I moved around in an area, and the choppiness was not reflected in the tempo of the game's music whatsoever.

I was going to go cry in the corner, but then I found that by dropping the resolution from 800x600 to 640x480 I was able to fix the problem. I then wondered why I'd been in 800x600 mode to begin with. Anyway, from what I can tell HQ3X has something wrong with it on my system, whereas HQ2X works perfectly. This probably helps nobody in any way whatsoever. Fuck you guys.
I hate you all.

HQxX filters are very CPU intensive. You'll just have to deal with it and use HQ2X.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

HQ3x and HQ2x are video filters. The reason you have a problem with 3x and not 2x is because 3x is more CPU intensive. 2x scales and filters the image to twice it's original resolution and 3x scales it to 3 times the original resolution. As you can see, scaling 3x takes more work.

Those filters are also more CPU intensive in general than the other filters. So, unforunately, you are stuck with the performance you're currently getting until you upgrade your computer.

It's safe to assum HQ stands for High Quality. HQxX modes are only availible on certain resolutions.

Is HQ4X 1024x768+ or was that HQX3?
