Gamepad acting up? Keyboard not responding properly? Can't get that other user to work? Read and post about it here.

PS3/Sixaxis controller not registering button up/down

Post by mikealeonetti »

Using zsnes version 1.51 on Gentoo Linux (2.6.31-gentoo-r6). When I press buttons on the controller for menus in games the selection cursor flies around. I have to gently tap the directional pad buttons. It seems that it's detecting my button press more than once if held down. However using the same controller on Windows works as expected.

Using a PS3 controller through USB.

This is probably a stupid question but may as well try any possibility. Do you have any key combos set? (MISC->KEY COMB) anything set for turbo?

Otherwise, sounds like a driver issue. Does the driver emulate keypresses or something?

Definitely not a stupid question because if it turns out that you were right, I would have felt stupid :D . But unfortunately, no, no Key Combs at set.

To be honest, I'm not sure what the driver is doing. It's not like ZSNES and Linux are detecting it wrong.

ZSNES
Device 0 Sony PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller
28 axis, 19 buttons, 0 hats, 0 balls
Linux
input: Sony PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller as /class/input/input8
sony 0003:054C:0268.0002: input: USB HID v1.11 Joystick [Sony PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller] on usb-0000:00:03.0-1/input0
Also, what's weird is that the left-right/up-down buttons are switched for some reason.

Actually it works no problem under the emulator XE with the same ROM. In ZSNES the character actually also always runs like the B button is being held down. But in Xe it works as expected (directionals also). Xe also does not get confused when I move the controller and accidentally detect the motion as a key.

And it's Gentoo, btw. I haven't tested it in ubuntu.
