A Unique Problem in Netplay - Windows Me

Post by TheMst1c »

Ok guise, i rather have a unique problem 4 netplay. Nao u c, if i run 1.36 (window version) teh thing lags horribly, as dis is my old computer, about 8 to 9 yrs old now, lol. But when i came across teh dos version, it runs extremely smooth! so den i was considering doing netplay, cause i have a cable internet. but then i don't have dial-up, and ipx is my only options left

so i looked around & found out about dis IPX emulator thingy, called Kali, & i was just wondering, has anyone tried 2 use that thing & play online? like evar? & do any of u know how 2 use it?

thx

It would be nice if you are typing better than you are now.

I remember using Kali a long time ago.. and it was a mediocre experience.

IPX probably could work over Kali, but you would have to find someone willing to do it over Kali and the DOS port of ZSNES as well (which you will probably not find many of). This would be tough especially when the majority of the userbase is Windows or Linux.

Ok, while i understand there r probably nobody on kali, (& i have zbattle.net too) i unly plan 2 do dis with ONE friend, b-cus i just wanted 2 experience a better & smoother gameplay once & for all.

i have used zbat too with windows version 1.36, but it just lags....2 no amount, even when i have fast internet. besides since dis is my old computer (445 Mhz, AMD K6-3D processor wif 512 RAM), i am running WinME FTL! yay...but put the sarcasm & my style of tieping aside, if u know how 2 use it, plz guide me thru it, or tell me how 2 run it, thx. also dis is just how i usually likes to type, hope u dont mind.

I can't because I've never used the IPX feature of ZSNES (I don't really know if it worked let alone configure it).

Well alrity, but if u've read things like ED, u eventually get used 2 it...alright i'll spell beter geeze.

*cough cough

There, well I have attempted to host a game in Kali with a lobby...but then, as soon as my friend joined, I started the game, then the lobby was gone? Wtf? It was weird...and I have set the IPX configuration in WindowsME already, so it tells me that IPX has been initialized, but is waiting for remote connection...and that's it. Perhaps I should mentions this to the maker of Kali, and they can add Dos ZSNES? Though I very much doubt that is likely.

1) we know what your boards nick is, don't need to see it again in your avatar
2) we can always click the MSN icon underneath your posts to get your MSN account
3) barring that, it's not a good idea to openly post your e-mail in public like that, unless you want unwanted evils in your inbox
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Ok, thanks for the heads up, but still, my avatar looks better than my nick.

It's fine, I have downloaded and installed all the updates and fixes in the computer anyway.

Anyhow, I think this is getting off topic, is anyone willing to help me with this at all?

Seriously, you are on your own on this. As I said before, you are hard pressed to find someone who uses the DOS port, let alone the netplay in that port.

Right, I know that YOU personally can't help me because you had no experience with it, but I'm asking for anyone who has read this topic and is willing/wanting to help. I also understand that my chances of someone wanting/willing to help is very slim, but I don't care.

Geeze what's it with everyone about me using WindowsME? I know they no longer support it but all the update that I've downloaded, and I MEAN all of them, works out pretty well and fixed a lot of the bugs. So it runs fine. And stop this shit before it becomes a Windows OS flamewar, seriously.

The last time I installed 2000 it was even shittier than ME, as it fucked up my video card driver and the color went all wrong.

And get back on topic.

IIRC, DOS IPX has never worked properly, even when it was implemented the first time. I never got it to work, either. Back in the DOS days, connecting via modem was pretty much the only sane option.

P.S. Get rid of Windows ME and switch to Windows 2000 or XP. A friendly advice. Just because you failed to install your video card drivers properly in Windows 2000 doesn't automatically make it a shitty OS.

Carry on.

I doubt this will start an OS flame war. The entire board vs. you is hardly a war. You'll be very hard pressed to find anybody that has any appreciable respect for Windoze Me. Even Microsoft appologized for it. If you must stick with a non-NT version of Windows, at least upgrad to 98SE.

edit: topic fixed

Alright, ENOUGH OF THIS WINDOWS ME BASHING!!! First of all let me explain why you fucks don't understand my situation.
Agozer wrote:P.S. Get rid of Windows ME and switch to Windows 2000 or XP. A friendly advice. Just because you failed to install your video card drivers properly in Windows 2000 doesn't automatically make it a shitty OS.

Friendly? FRIENDLY?!?! If you said that I failed at installing the video card driver then you dumbass obviously knows nothing about my computer. Also by telling someone they fail is NOT FRIENDLY.

First off, I have the DRIVER CD, which comes along with the Video Card. I have that and I install it when I tried 2000. The shit went wrong, and the color were off. Ok, so I've tried EVERY OTHER solutions as well, changing the colors selection, twitching from the monitor's color itself, change the driver, updating the driver from the Video's Card's official site or microsoft, reintalling the driver, etc. EVERYTHING FUCKING THING, AND NOTHING WORKED. So who is to blame here? Microsoft for NOT MAKING A COMPATIBLE FUCKING DRIVER.

Second, I have Windows XP SP2, which I have tried to install on here. But since this computer is so old, Windows XP LAGS ITSELF. And more than half of the time Windows XP ran it crashes or freezes constantly. Not only that, but many of the other things like the Mouse Driver doesn't work anymore, because it was designed for older systems. And ZSNES FROZE AS WELL. Do you think I'd rather use XP on here? NO YOU FUCKING IDIOT.
AntoineWG wrote:...The entire board vs. you is hardly a war. You'll be very hard pressed to find anybody that has any appreciable respect for Windoze Me...If you must stick with a non-NT version of Windows, at least upgrad to 98SE.

edit: topic has now become a flamewar
ENTIRE BOARD VS ME IS NOT A WAR?!?!?! OH HAR HAR HAR, IT'S SO NOT A WAR GUISE LOL!!!

NO YOU FUCKING IDIOT, THIS HAS BECOMING FUCKING WAR NOW. WHY? BECAUSE BY ADDING WINDOWS ME TO MY TOPIC, YOU WILL ATTRACT STUPID DUMBASS PEOPLE HERE TO TELL ME NOT TO USE WINDOWS ME, SO HOW DOES THAT NOT INCITE A WAR?!?! AND WHO STARTED THIS WAR? YOU GUYS, NOT ME, GET IT FUCKING RIGHT!!!

Even if you don't like me using WindowsME, fine then keep your fucking mouth closed to your fucking self, so WE WON'T HAVE THIS SHIT. But, it's because you fucks CAN'T KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLOSED, that's WHY THIS IS HAPPENING.

Windows 98? Again, you obviously don't know my situation.

1) I don't have my Win98 CD anymore, so therefore I CAN'T INSTALL IT
2) And why would I install Win98? Since it's also no longer supported. Besides wouldn't it make more sense to use WinME since WinME is probably more updated? Even though that the system is bad?

NO, that's where you guy are wrong. WinME's core system IS BASED ON Win98!!! So essentially they are the FUCKING SAME THING. SO WHAT IF WINME IS UNSTABLE WHEN IT'S FIXABLE BY THE UPDATE AND PATCHES? THAT REALLY DON'T MATTER AMIRITE GUISE? IT'S STILL A BAD SYSTEM RIGHT?

Seriously, get it fucking right you fucktards.

I take no claim in locking this thread, but please leave out the OS out of the convo.. I suspect the video card drivers provided on the cd were the culprit (then again, I have no idea what video card it was to begin with.. I get the feeling it may have been a factor).

Anyways, the IPX feature in the DOS port was perhaps the most untested feature in ZSNES. I honestly don't think you would have gotten very far if at all.

Let me give you a general method of dealing with games with IPX though..

Make sure Kali loads ZSNES up when both users are connected in the same room. Then you both select the IPX option and acknowledge that the IPX function is in beta stages. If it manages to connect, then great. If it fails, I wish I knew what else to tell you. You probably need to drop any firewalls you have (particularly if you are using a router) and/or make sure the IPX compatible protocol is installed on both systems (this assumes both systems are using a 9x based OS). IPX didn't initialize for me in Win2k, so go figure.

Back in the Warcraft 2 DOS days, this was essentially how the IPX connection worked over Kali.. you would enter your nick and select IPX and then see channels pop up for people waiting to join that game. This would effectively fall under the same deal.

I concur.

Anyhow thank you Deathlike2 for all the help you've given me. And if I managed to get this to work, I'll post it on in here.

And seriously, if you got a problem with WindowsME take it up with Microsoft, not me.

Ok, I have test it fully with everything now. And this is the result.

We both had IPX setup correctly in windows, and enabled NetBios support for it, and have setup the winsock support in Kali as well. We both disabled firewall.

We got...a bit far then you did Deathlike2. We both had IPX initialized, then at waiting for remote it does nothing afterwards...

It almost worked...damn. If you got an idea as to how to make this further, please let me know, thanks.
