Question about lag

Hello, I recently tried netplaying Kirby Superstar with a friend, but there's quite a bit of lag and I would like to know if there's any way to reduce it. I'm using version 1.40. I'm not very familiar with this sort of thing so excuse me if I don't know what you're talking about.

We need more information, systems, connections, zsnes versions, game info.
