ROMhacking.net is now OFFICIALLY Open!
http://www.romhacking.net
Ok guys, the site is now officially open! Tell all your friends and come on down and see what we have to offer! We've got much more than the old ROMhacking.com ever had to offer and have several new innovative features on the site. So let's join together and help rejuvinate the community!
As you can see already, there's going to be frequent news updates(which you guys can make yourself) and a staff that actually cares about the community. You should check out the 'About the Site' page to get the big picture on what the site is, how it came to be, and what it hopes to become.
NOTE: A hacks section is on the way in the next several weeks. That's the last piece of the puzzle to represent the entire community.

Very glad to see it officially open, and very good work so far.. A little tempting to go back to ROM hacking with this news, too.
On an unrelated note. The banner to the site seems a bit.. hmm, eh? It is the least important aspect of the whole site I know, but it just isn't a real eye-catcher. Might want to consider something a little more professional looking. (Which actually could draw in more people to the site.)

Nice logo, very nice. Not sure about the Crono picture on the right side though, looks DBZ-ish and a little misleading. Maybe something else, like the Mario and Sonic mascots together, or well.. anything else really.
On another note.. I am tempted to ask for a position as news poster. I am a pretty busy person usually, so I am not sure how often I would be able to help out, but I've noticed some things that aren't posted up on the site yet that are recent, and I would gladly contribute in submissions in some way, if possible. (Not necessarily a news poster perhaps, but a way to submit news to the site would be good, at least.)
Then again, considering it was just Christmas, it isn't too surprising that the news is slightly behind.

Well, Akira Toriyama is the man behind both the character designs for Chrono Trigger and DBZ.The Sage Of Time wrote:... Crono picture on the right side though, looks DBZ-ish and a little misleading.

I always had a feeling that Crono and Goku looked similar
I had no idea that the guy on the right is Crono... it looked more like Goku to me.

<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

I know, hence why it is "misleading." You see, for a minute there I could not even tell it was Crono.. (If it had been colored, I'd have recognized it in a second, but just the outline.. it makes it harder to define.)Agozer wrote:Well, Akira Toriyama is the man behind both the character designs for Chrono Trigger and DBZ.The Sage Of Time wrote:... Yup, same artist did them both. Kinda funny eh?adventure_of_link wrote:I always had a feeling that Crono and Goku looked similar

Reminds me of the photoshop phriday at SA where they took porn then turned it into wholesome. Like one picture some girl was uhh doing stuff and the artist replaced free willy with a tuba, Haha. At any rate romhacking.net is looking pretty spiffy. I'll probably visit it alot more now. : OMisterJones wrote:That's a rather interesting question...

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been back here to follow up with this post. Things are usually pretty busy around Christmas time. Aside from getting ROMhacking.net off the ground, I had plenty of 'real-life' events to handle.
snkcube, Joe Camacho, and Agozer:
Thanks for the words of support! It seems to be doing pretty successful so far. I've almost got the Hacks section finished. Maybe another week or two because the database still needs to be filled with hacks once the code is finished.
The Sage of Time:
You know the answer to anyone who doesn't like the logo(or the layout for that matter)... Make a better one! The site has themes for a reason. Make your own theme and logo if you don't like the ones currently on the site.
You do realize ANYONE can make a news update right? And you do realize there is a section 'Submit News' on the left hand bar? You can MAKE news updates about anything that the site does not have on the site already right now.
The site DOESN'T rely on staffers to gather news. It's up the community. If the news is behind, it's because NOBODY made any news posts about it!
In general, your news will appear on the main page 24-48 hours after you make it(sometimes less).
Based on this, you can make news updates whenever and however often you'd like.
EMu-LoRd:
That's in an interesting logo. I like the broken IC in the background.
I'm also not a fan of the Chrono portion either. However, as I've said already, the site is themeable. Perhaps you'd be interested in making up a theme to go with your logo.
If you're not very technical, you can provide a photoshopped version of how you'd like the site to look and I can do the rest.
If you are technical, I can point you to the CSS file you can edit.

Well, it's probably best to formally announce it by posting it on the site, if possible. :/Cidolfas wrote:I don't think anyone's said that DeJap isn't dead. Unless you count the front page of dejap.com, and the reason that hasn't been updated is because... well, because DeJap is dead. You'd think that noticing that the most recent update was 2003 would be enough of a hint for you.
EDIT, OT: Hey, just noticed that my avatar looks cool in BBTech, hehe. :p

You know, I can see this happening. I mean face it, the snes is fading from view. Sure there will always be snes fans, as there are with any console. But, there are so many newer consoles out there, and with lots of translation teams having real life issues to deal with, I can see the last few eventually splitting up and moving on.
The one thing I have noticed, is that some gaming companies are actually starting to pay attention though, and we are getting games that we might not have before.
In a few months ToP will be out on GBA. Sure its not going to be as great as the translations that were done here, and the GBA has a few issues, but it is coming out here.
You never know, maybe sometime in the near future you may see Star Ocean on the GBA or some other handheld.
EDIT: By the way I forgot to mention. Congrats on RomHacking.net it looks great.
