New Profile Options/Input ??

Post by joe_devore »

I haven't been around in quite awhile, so I wondering what these new options
in profile page are:

Code: Select all

How much is : *  {Edit/Input Box}
(check box) I am a robot
(check box) I am not a robot
Anyone?

They are options to prevent spam bots from registering. This has been successful.

It's not user-configurable. It auto-detects, you dirty robot.

i do however, rembered encouter certain forum that was heavily spammed (mostly porn spam), yet, when i try to register, the registration protocol do ask me that "robot/non-robot" thingy...

i guess newer spam-bot can be configured to defeat that questions...

Hardware means nothing if you don't have good software.

I see that the registration and profile page also use "invisible" form fields to detect bots.
Very clever.

Thanks. Even when I select "I am not a spam bot" it doesn't save. So you are saying it only applies during registration?

... isn't it obvious, since you can post and all.

Yes. Only for registering purposes. Thread over.

someone would have to personally configure their spambots to bypass this and spam our beloved zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) forums. and if/when they do, then one of our beloved assholes will modify the script to bypass. it's a beautiful simplicity! I would almost put radio buttons like:

Please read the following, and then check which applies:
o - This if for spambots
o - I am a spam bot
o - Asking for game files (ROMs) or where to find them will ban me
o - I once considered becomming a spambot
o - Zsnes will never be made for ds, ps3, psp, and cell phones
o - nor will it run on any GPS, microwave, GP32, and iPod
o - I was given birth by my mother who is a human being
o - The tree ahead of me is leaf free
o - I play all my rawmz on zsnes

this will not only thwart spambots, but also retards.
