New Super Mario Bros Wii is alright, but there's 1 problem..

Post by adventure_of_link »

OK, when I booted NSMBW for the first time, it wanted me to do a system upgrade (which AFAIK the latest is the HBC killing 4.2).

Anyone know a way around this, or at least way to downgrade the wii to 4.1 (without of course bricking the wii and without using a modchip)? Note that I didn't install 4.2 yet, just wanted to use 4.2 for general Wii gaming (especially for NSMBW) and 4.1 for homebrew.

thanks.

You can still use Bannerbomb with 4.2 as well as afaik the Home Brew Channel.

The game doesn't contain 4.2, so update away. It won't kill homebrew.

Yeah, I couldn't remember which one it has but now that you mention it it is indeed 4.1 on the disc.

Actually, I have 4.1U firmware installed on my Wii, and when I pop in the NSMBW disk, on the disk channel it shows Wii System Update... :?

EDIT: Just read that some people were able to load NSMBW through a USB loader program. I might have to try this.

Dude just update your Homebrew Channel through the built in updater. The latest version is immune to the 4.2 system menu.

Nice. I do remember updating my HBC last night to 1.0.6, so I'll give this a whirl.

EDIT: I "updated" my firmware via NSMBW, didn't actually do much. I'm still running on 4.1. Thanks to everyone who helped.

Double EDIT: I updated my wii to 4.2, and everything is still working fine.
If you've already updated to 4.2, then use Smash Stack (super smash bros brawl exploit) or IndianaPwns (Lego Indiana Jones exploit) to use the latest hackmii installer to install the latest HBC and DVDx.
