Just got a Super Nintendo (again)

Post by Blasingame »

Way back in 1996 when the N64 came out I stupidly sold my Super Nintendo to Funcoland (old gamestop)

Yesterday I came across a lot of Super Nintendo stuff for $150 games & console on craigslist.
Tonight I picked up the bundle

The pics below show what I got. All games came with boxes and manuals and are in like new condition.

I feel pretty lucky right now.

I'm interested in hacking it somehow. Anyone know any cool mods or hacking accessories to do with this piece of fine hardware? I'm looking to take off the tabs to try out pal games on it. I wish there was a flash cart for the system like the DS and R4.

Very nice. Too bad that SNES you got aged and turned mostly into urine color.
Try out CCleaner and other free software at Piriform

Yeah it's urine color. Though only the top part is urine color the bottom is fine. Looks like I'll have to find someone else selling a nicer console.

Yep! I had one just like that with the urine color. Too bad that it got completely damaged in hurricane George because water filtered on the closet's wall. I should had put it under the sun for a longer time before turning it on...

My snes had the completely opposite effect on the urine coloration... the bottom of mine got the effect IIRC...

Here's some stuff on modding a SNES to play games from other regions.

If you want to try this you may be able to clean up the snes to the way it looked before.

Interesting... I think I'll make a batch and try it out on a couple things...

For those of you who want to know the reasons why old plastics turn yellow:

it's funny, as a kid we'd clean the nintendo games with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. when the bottle ran out, we'd use hydrogen peroxide. for years we used hydrogen peroxide to clean stuff, and it worked. I even cleaned the yellow snes with it, but it didn't get rid of the yellow. I'm going to have to try this, my snes is just a tiny bit yellow.

Huh.

I was gonna suggest the peroxide, though I saw it discovered by the Transformers community.

They were using a glass jar/clear plastic bag and sunlight.
