'Laggy' input with typing and GUI

Post by smkdan »

I've started getting this wierd problem recently with ZSNES. When I navigate the GUI and type, the input is either ignored or delayed severley.

With the GUI clicks are randomly ignored or they take a while to actually take affect. By this I mean;

-Directory keeps scrolling even when I stop holding the mouse button down
-Buttons clicks are ignored or happen a few seconds later than they should
-Typing in text boxes has a long response time before your text actually appears

But the biggest killer for me is netplay chat. It ignores and delays 75% of my input even when the performance is perfect. It takes A G E S to compose a coherent sentence and its really frustrating. I know this happens too in laggy netplay so the problem is magnified when its laggy...

I'm not aware of any new software I installed that could attribute to this...Any ideas?

If you recently updated ZSNES.. delete the .cfg+.dat files. Failing to do so will cause such kinds of problems...

Try turning off High Priority as well.

What settings are you using? I'm pretty sure its related to performance. If you are using high resolutions or such things, I think ZSNES drops frames even while you are in the GUI, so that anything you do during a dropped frame is not detected. Something like that.

After you delete the config files, see if you have the same problem (this is with the default settings). If you have the same problem with the default ZSNES settings, then something else might be the problem.

I get the same behavior myself sometimes.

I deleted the 2 configuration files and it seems to be back to normal! I hear alot of mentions about deleting these 2 files when bugs occur but I didn't know it was such a common issue. Guess next time I'll delete those files first when ZSNES is being odd.

Or simply whenever you update your ZSNES.
