Report a bot thread.

I'm not sure if this is necessary, but it seems everytime I log on here, we have a new member who is a bot. So maybe we can point it out to admins or something?

how about in the rules when someone signs up we put "you must put 'zsnes board' as your location in your profile." then say 30 minutes after an account is created, it will be deleted if the location is not correct.

That would fail miserably. If any of the lame spammers figures it out, all they have to do is modify said location for just this board and whalla.. more bots with 'zsnes board' as the location and we still get the bots.

A lack of understanding of how spam bots work is why boards such as this continue to have these problems.

Spambots are not custom tailored to tiny individual boards such as this one. They only tailor them for sites like Slashdot. The bots that are hitting here just query google for inurl:phpbb2,etc and then auto register and reply.

You want to stop the spambots? Rename the post variables that the board uses, rename the php file names. Add just a tiny bit of logic to the registration box that isn't canned software used by millions of other boards. If someone can't figure out a pre-algebra equation, then do we want them posting here anyway?

Shit! I was gonna post that "free porno" one.

I am starting to get pissed about people calling SNKCUBE a "bot" these days. I once started a thread calling him a bot because he really did reply to pretty much every topic. It is a different story nowadays. He has toned himslef down a great deal. He keeps an eye on various gaming news sites and he posts some interesting news.

I thank you two for saying that. Ever since people complained how I posted in every thread, I thought about it and agreed. Evan's old post at the whattheboat forums helped a lot too. (He also complained about my posting behavior.) Now I try to post if necessary.
