I just don't like how companies will throw their weight around like this. Instead of gaining profit by having all of those lik-sang sales go to them, they've basically lost any chance at getting those consumers' cash.
Or forcing them to buy at European Stores. :?
i'm going out on a limb here and saying that it wasn't available in european stores when the majority of these sales went down.

i could be wrong, i haven't looked into this much.

if sony really wants europe's money so bad, they shouldn't delay releasing their hardware or software for insane amounts of time.
Indeed, and yet again, companies do this all the time. Like, the Coca-Cola Company sues people that try to take Mexican made Coca-Cola to the US, because it isn't made for the american market. Car manufacturers too.

When a company makes products for a specific market, they expect them to be sold in those markets. If only consoles would be region free. :?

i understand completely the point, i guess i'm just whining.

sony was asking for it to happen in europe, and it makes me angry that they would get all huffy about a problem they created.

They will lose those sales, yes, hoping that the Europeans buy the expensive European Units.

Sony is shooting themselves in the foot, yes. Unless they really decrease the price of the PS3 in Europe, so there wouldn't be any need to import. Worldwide launch wouldn't hurt either.

It's not really about the goods being expensive and stuff, but rather
the fact that the games usually gets delayed as ****. That, and the
fact that there's a lot of people over here that likes games that them
publishers won't sell here. The big majority of us European
gamers waits for a release to be released and only import the games
that won't be available in, say, normal gamestores.
The majority, that is!

The thing about us having to wait for so much longer for certain
game releases is much thanks to France, Italy, Germany and Spain
because they're obviously too spoiled to read/listen too fucking
English. It's not like I have English as a first language either, but
we do learn English in school as in most other sane countries.

Oughta be needless to say; I've visited numerous forums and stuff
lately regarding this very topic, and find myself with this current
conclusion: Fuck you, Sony! Come out of whatever weird closet
you've entangled yourself into and be more pal with your
otherwise gamewise consumers and bacon and shit.

Crap!

I just fear they will go after Play-asia next even though play asia sells mostly to the US which Sony doesnt seem to give a damn about.

I doubt that Lik-Sang had any sort of agreement with Sony to have been breached. If that were the case, Sony would simply cut-off the supply. Clearly Lik-Sang is obtaining PSPs and other products through other distributors, who themselves are violating agreements with Sony. Those distributors are breaching the agreement with Sony. This is partially what serial numbers are for. Sony could very easily identify/warn/reprimand the offending distributors.

Sony is hypocritical for announcing that the PS3 would be region-free for games, then pulling this bullshit. They abused the legal system by suing Lik-Sang from 10 countries at the same time. It was impossible for Lik-Sang to show up even to defend themselves, as they have no actual operation within Europe. Sony "won" by default in Europe (and probably many of the other suits), then billing Lik-Sang for their own "legal fees".

In reality, what Lik-Sang has done with imported/exported game hardware/software has violated absolutely no laws. The European Union has a law that says it's illegal for a retailer operating within the EU to import and resell against the manufacturer's wishes, but it's perfectly OK for a citizen living in the UK to order such products from a foreign retailer. It's also perfectly OK for Lik-Sang to buy them from whoever will sell it, and sell their own property to whomever they please.

Sorry for slight derailment, but whats the main difference? Sugar vs High Fructose Corn Syrup? or is it a slight recipe change?

So Play-Asia suspended Sony imports to Europe. Seems like they're playing it safe.

This is probably old news since I just read it in a magazine, but due to shortages, PS3 launch isn't happening in Europe Friday like it is the US and Japan.

Every time I think about moving to Europe to get out of a downward spiraling US, I keep thinking Europe really gets screwed as far as video games and other consumer goods all the time.

All I know from my company is we need to get our products CE marked for sale there which isn't much of a big deal. Beyond that though..

Why does everybody give Europe the shaft? Are there other laws in place?

Europe is in the transition of becoming a large Confederation. Some laws are applied to all the members of the European Union, while other laws are exclusive to each State.

Videogames aren't really a priority.

Totally agreed. But I dont want these eurofags importing from play-asia and making it go down. I'm glad Play-asia is taking a anti europian stance and not selling PS3's to europe and soon not selling psp to europe either.

The PS3 was supposed to launch at the same time in all countries, but since Europe had "Blu-Ray diode shortage", the Euro lauch was pushed back to March 2007.
