I had red version, and i always chose charmander firstly because it was my favourite pokemon, secondly it's more of a challenge than the other starting Pokemon. Go for the remakes if you can, remakes are always good if it stays faithful to the original, and this one does.

You miss out on all the fun glitches if you go with the remake, though.

I also went with Charmander, and I didn't find it to be impossibly difficult.

When Pokemon first came out, I got Red. Really, there isn't much difference between red or blue, so I would suggest Yellow. Yellow is basically the same except it has a special Pikachu that gets exclusive moves, and lets you get Squirtle, Charmander, and Bulbasaur in the game, so you don't have choose. There apparently is some other things that relate the game to the tv show.

But yeah, these games were remade on the GBA, so that might be the better choice. Plus the DS Pokemon games are coming out early this year.

yeah, in pokemon yellow, the rival fights are more or less even throughout the game (unless you choose the path to where the rival evolves his eevee to Vaporeon  or he evolves it to Jolteon . Also, I believe it depends on how you and when you fight the rival depends on how he evolves eevee.)
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

I don't recall there being a trick like that.
I have a Tips'N'Tricks that had it in their code section , with pics

quoted from some site I found , same steps tips & tricks said to use
Here¦s a glitch in the game: Hidden Yoshi
To get Yoshi, there must be two players. One has the Blue
version, the other one has the Red version. Both players need to have all 150 Pokemon!
1. The player with the Red version trades a Dratini to the
player with the Blue version.
2. The "Blue-player" evolves Dratini into Dragonite(very easy
with rare candys!)and trades it back to the "Red-player".
3. The Red-player goes to the basement of the Unknown Dunge-
on and surfs to the spot where Mewtwo was found.
4. Then he should take out a Firestone and use it on Dragonite.
5. First, nothing will happen. But then, the screen will
glitch and Dragonite evolves into YOSHI!
6. Yoshi will have Dragonite¦s stats, and his ID-No. will be 999.

I call bullshit. It is like the rumor the truck in the ferry docks had Mew.

Probably a April Fool's Joke.
