yes, i was, and although its taking forever, i still am. school/work/girlfriend just dont give me enough time to work on the docs enough. what i have right now can be found at http://www.geocities.com/rchildress87/w ... readme.htm. i still plan on working on them however, and EVERY bit of help would be greatly appreciated.

is it alright if i use your changelog once you're finished?

Also, i need people to help me update everything after i have it all converted. i think i have all formatting issues resolved now, so all i should have to do is copy, paste, and add a little html.

just tell me! i'll gladly send you all that i have so that we can get this done faster.

OK, let me get this Topic kickin' again.
I'm going to start working on the changelog again.

Over the next couple of days I'm going to fix the formatting, so that it is only 75 Characters per Line (maybe 79 Characters Max).

1234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789

This is the standard of most "whatsnew" documents (and previous ZSNES Versions),
as well as the FAQs on GameFAQs.com.

"79 characters is a classic standard for text files. In today's browsers, it allows for the file to be read at almost any resolution in any standard browser."

Expect a new changelog, soon.

Uh...that's 80 characters you want. But it doesn't matter, because most sane people wrap at 72 characters.

You could write a program to do that for you in about 15 minutes. No need for several days.

There's lots of good text editing programs out there already.

that's why I said a couple of days

I got more enjoyable things to do, like play Mortal Kombat: Deception ONLINE !!!

I've decided I cant update the docs myself. Sorry, I just cant. However, anyone who is willing to update the Linux, DOS, and Windows docs: please update them and send 'em to me. I'll transfer them to HTML a.s.a.p., and maybe we'll have the docs done for the 1.4 release.

I almost have the original Windows docs completely converted, however the FAQ is very outdated. Stuff needs to be added, stuff needs to be removed, etc. I think the only way we can make this FAQ useful is if the whole community gets together and makes a good one. So, please post questions and answers you'd like to have added, as well as any suggestions/edits for the current FAQ.

Here is the next update of the .txt version of the v1.40 Changelog, as of November 01, 2004.
It now uses 79 Characters per line.

http://www.geocities.com/ldawgzsnes/wha ... _rev01.txt

This Changelog does not include the changes from the last 2 WIPs (10/18/2004) and (10/24/2004).

man page update.

I'm not quite sure what to do about the special chip / gfx pack sections, and I need more info for the contributor sections. Also, should it go in category 6, games, or be left in category 1, misc?

All right... I guess I could take a few minutes to look at it.

Let's start with the description. Why is it spelled "zSNES"? Is the Z not supposed to be capitalized? I always thought it was.

The writers mentioned are zsKnight, Demo, Teuf, and Pharos. I don't see pagefault or Nach in that list.

What does this mean? "-9 Off by 1 line fix". Does that fix particular games video? Could it be more descriptive. If it fixes a particular game, could an example be listed?

Hmmm. Maybe that's too much. It might lead to a lot of options needing a rewrite. Just because I don't know what it does may not be sufficient reason to rewrite it. Some random user may not know what HiROM or LoROM are, though the options are perfectly clear to me.

The spelling "zSNES" seems to be in several places. If this spelling is not wrong, it is at least inconsistent with the "ZSNES" spellings I also found. Could we make them all one or the other?

In the coders section, pagefault and Demo are listed, but no Nach.

Version history. I would prefer the date come after the update, but that's purely cosmetic and more or less up to you. Obviously not that big of a deal.

Those options and syntax are nice, but are becoming less and less useful to the general person what with the GUI. Maybe a note saying most options (all?) can be changed from within the GUI.

A "Thanks" section might be nice. ipher's name springs to mind, but there must be others that are not immediately obvious to me. Maybe this could supplant or replace the Linux Contributors section?

About graphic packs:
You don't have to put them in ~/.zsnes/WHATEVER/ but in $savedir/WHATEVER/.
~/.zsnes/ is only the default savedir. Remember that the common linux user isn't afraid of this kind of stuff (compared to some windows n00bs).

Also:
- I don't think Super Mario RPG should be listed in the "doesn't work because of special chip" games.
- there's a bad formatting on this block (I use a 80-width viewer):

Code: Select all

-r # Set audio sampling rate, where # is one of:
              0 = 8 KHz       1 = 11.025 KHz       2 = 22.05 KHz       3 = 44.1
KHz
              4 = 16 KHz      5 = 32 KHz
- the version history is hilarious
-(2004-11-02) Release for zSNES 1.40 by Mitchell "Noxious Ninja" Mebane.
(...)
-Initial release of ZSNES man page by Mitchell "The Khan Artist" Mebane.
You may want to update the old entry, your choice.

I never noticed this before because I was forcing my desktop refresh rate, but using the -6 option (60 Hz) changes your default refresh to 60 Hz. It shouldn't do this, obivously, it should only be using 60 Hz for ZSNES.
