SNESTool runs fine in Windows (at least, over here it does).

Tried the latest version - the problem still happens :( When patching a rom,the program freezes using 100% CPU.The ROM eventually gets patched while the app is not responding,but it never recovers to the main menu (I have to terminate the DOSBox process)

I tried to patch my Terranigma ROM (PAL to NTSC) with SNESTool 1.2 in DOSBox 0.70, and it works fine without any freezing.

Just try patching SMW with the SMW2+Complete.zip patch from ROMHacking.net
It always freezes DOSBox,even though the rom is patched OK.

[EDIT] I tried fixing some other roms and it works great.It must be that SMW patch.

That's why I don't like Linux. Can hardly use any software without compiling it yourself. And it seems like there is a 50% chance compiling will fail for reasons beyond your knowledge to fix. :P

I hate compiling other people's crap. Perhaps if compiling went smoothley and actually worked as planned, it wouldn't be so bad.

Um what?

I've been using Linux as my main system for a couple of years now. I have yet to compile anything on it besides my own software.

The only time I compile someone else's software is if I want to add something to it, and I generally despise doing that.

Most of my Linux experience comes from the server world. I suppose that is probably a bit different of an environment. The 'make' command is required for a ton of software there.

How do you install the majority of your programs? Package Manager type deal?

apt-get install <package here> (or at least in debian and debian-based systems)

synaptic (if you have a GUI management for RPMs, DEBs, etc)

emerge (portage via something similar to BSD ports)
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

A bugfix release this time, but we couldn't resist adding a few new exciting features:

* Added a new recompiling cpu core which is easier to port!

* Added a x86_64 and a mipsel_32 recompiling core.

* Fixed hangups on certain platforms after long gameplay of several games.

* Fixed several joystick bugs.

* Improved cdrom support. (fixes for audio, iso and detection.)

* Improved SVGA and VESA. (detection and display)

* Fixed a few textmodes and improved ansi emulation a bit.

* Fixed pcspeaker and certain types of soundeffects.

* Added undocumented mousebackdoor.

* Made mount and imgmount a bit easier to use. (ioctl by default, support
for ~ and ~username, auto size guessing for images)

* Fix a few compilation problems on various hosts and a general code
cleanup.

* Several small fixes that improve compatibility.

DOSBox 0.72 has been released!

This release fixes a few bugs that slipped through when releasing 0.71.
Here a list of the changes:

* Fixed unitialized variable in joystick. (Fixes crashes on Vista and Mac OS X)

* Some bugfixes and speedups to the 64 bit recompiling core.

* Fixed sign flag on soundblaster dma transfers (Space Quest 6 intro)

* Fixed a bug in keyboard layout processing code and fixed certain layouts.

* Fixed Dreamweb.

* Improved speed unlocking when running cycles=max.

* Fixed a crash related to the tab completion in the shell.

* Improved aspect correction code. Should now be like how a real monitor handles it.

* Fixed a bug in the xms status report code. (Blake Stone 1.0 shareware)

* Added a lot more keyboard layouts.

* Fixed crash related to changing the scaler before a screen was created.

* Hopefully fixed compilation on *bsd.

* Enabled auto cpu core selection for recompiling core as well.

* Made the used joystick selectable when 4axis is specified.

* Added some hints for inexperienced DOS users to the shell.

Compatibility should be same as 0.71 and 0.70 aside from the game specific fixes.
