Made dumb change in ATI Catalyst, can't revert

Post by smkdan »

Basically, I changed the 'desktop area' or something along those lines to a resolution my monitor cannot handle. I thought it would change the desktop viewing area so that I could scroll around a larger area but still have the 1280x1024 screen resolution. Yes, it was pretty stupid and I should have read up on it but I didn't think I'd have to reset the PC, boot in safe mode and disable catalyst to type this post.

Whenever Catalyst starts it loads the incompatible resolution of which the monitor doesn't like and then I have no choice but to reset the PC, unless ofcourse I knew a sequence of key presses that would revert the settings.

Oh well, there must be a solution to this; any ideas?

uninstall the catalyst drivers while in safe mode then reset to normal mode and reinstall them?

Driver Cleaner Pro works wonders

Code: Select all

remove old drivers with DC pro, reboot, then install.

Yes, it should run in safe mode. never tried it, but don't see why it wouldn't.

uninstall in safe mode, reboot pc. windows will recognize hardware, load drivers by itself like magic, and then you can reinstall your catylist drivers and live to mess up your computer another day.

Boot in VGA mode, change the resolution, then reboot.
