Final Fantasy

Post by casualsax3 »

So this will be my first time playing through the original FF, and I'll be doing it on the PSP.

What's everyone's favorite party configuration?

Good classic fun.

A safe bet is Fighter, Black Belt, Red Mage, and White Mage.... I haven't tried that variation in the GBA version though.. it works awesome in the original.

Most of that is due to the weapon selection of a White Mage.... which is 99% crap.

I've always gone by the classic Figher/Black Belt/Black Mage/White Mage. In reality, the Black Mage is pretty useless, and it is likely better to take a Theif, which gets switched to the powerful ninja later in the game.
<pagefault> i'd break up with my wife if she said FF8 was awesome

The Black Mage is a bit more balanced in the GBA version as the magic power is applied to item casting weapons... and thus making him a viable option.. on the other hand, item casting Flare is so broken on many levels...

Who found frustrating to miss an attack because you killed the enemy with the last attack?

Ah man, I had to think every attack in order to not scream at the game. GBA version saved me from a lot of stress.

I actually liked it. Forced you to actually consider your actions instead of just slapping OK repeatedly.

Indeed, sadly, my first Final Fantasy was II for the SNES, so it took a bit to get used to first one's battle system.

black belts are simpering little girls until about lvl 14, then they kick mad butt without any weapons. After that point, money should never be a problem for you.

Of course, the black mage is a bit overpowered due to the "overhauled" magic system, which lets you lob spells with impunity.

I found the black mage rather useful for hammering bosses and crowd-clearing.
Could probably be replaced by a red mage, but black mages have more power... and NUKE(flare, whatever).

Well, making Black Mages underpowered in the original and overpowered now balances it out completely. ;)

I thought they were fairly useful originally. They just had to be used strategically.

That's the big thing about FF1. It required a lot more planning than the later games, regardless of party.

The balance breaks down with the optional weapons found in the last dungeon.
