ZSNESW Windowed mode.

Post by HMPoweredMan »

Is there a way to have ZSNESW be surrounded by the standard windows shell and not have the ZSNESW one? It just bothers me to have an application running not look the same as all the rest. and SNES9X is a load of dookie, so that is not an option.

Um, I heard the way older versions of zsnes didn't have the current GUI, but since I've been using ZSNES with it's current type of GUI for... five years? I don't think you'd like having to go to a version so, so old.
The new one is reportedly (I have spies that read stickies!) going to have a super-ultra-sexy-new GUI. ... I think.

You heard right.

WAY back in the day. Back when it was DOS-only.

And you had to walk 15 miles in the snow to find how to load SMW?

You mean dump, right?

Back then, the dumpers only worked in certain areas, and you had to use a divining rod to find the right place.

Naw, that was earlier. Before emulation, when people only used SNES copiers.

By the time I came in, we'd standardized things a bit.

...

Actually, it's kinda weird to think that when I started in on emulation, doing a search for "SNES ROMs" would get you SNES ROMs instead of porn.

ZSNES will have a more "stardard" looking GUI in the future, although the GUI we have now isn't going to get replaced. There have been some discussion whether or not code an option to switch between GUI styles or simply maintain two different builds. If I'm not mistaken, Qt or similar has been thrown around.

Don't ask when this will become reality.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Crea: Yeah, I saw some of the anime ones, not realizing they were porn. The quality was rather... SNES.

Agozer: Discussion still going on, or... dead? I would like the current GUI being kept, even if the only updates to it was adding the new options.

Seems like alot of work to maintain to different builds for the GUI alone. As for the current GUI: Its not that its that bad, just that it looks like hell (especially the fonts) on large monitors. You can filter it, but its still not that great. The wait for a new build is becoming slow torture :(

better start yelling at the makers of Word 2007 then with their non-standard menu :P

even with Zsnes's new version when it comes out I'd much rather have them make their own setup, but then I'm insane so whateva.

NOTE: I'm not saying they have to keep the old look, I just think they should keep a look that is all their own.

I like the GUI fullscreen... I like how the text is blocky and such. Gives it an air of old cool stuff.
I think the GUI is very unique and I really love it.

I don't want to memorize new keyboard commands for interacting with the GUI, anyway. XD As it is right now I can navigate it just fine without using the mouse.

If I recall, the plan was for skinning, with the GUI we all know and love currently included as a skin.

That's one of the perks about the ZSNES GUI. It matches the theme of the application.

It's been argued that integration with the OS GUI would make for a more professional appearance, but pretty much every mainstream entertainment app has a custom GUI. So the way I see it, a custom GUI is more professional(as well as far more aesthetically appealing than a single flat gray menu bar).

yeah, it is more aesthetically pleasing as it is customized to zsnes, sometimes it's good to be your own entity.
