RPGOne founder and leader ChrisRPG, has died

Post by Panzer88 »

no matter what you thought of the group, this guy really did a lot for the translation scene, and even in his illness was trying to get his site back up, until like a month before he died.

for the official thread on it all, go here

I don't know about you guys, but to me he was a decent guy, and I think he deserves some respect for his contributions at this time.

Why he died? A car accident, disease, heart attack, murdered?
Yes I know that my grammar sucks!

apparently it was due to illness, some complications involving either A.I.D.S. or a stroke.

I don't know the specifics so please don't quote me on it.

also go here for additional information. He spent the last month or so in a hospital and the last few years to my understanding bedridden. Basically he went through hell (being bedridden for so long anyways seems pretty terrible to me)

well I was told he lived in Florida for the last year or so.

you're right it is the internet, but all his close friends are talking about it, they could all be in on an elaborate joke but I doubt they would joke about such a terrible serious thing, they were all really close friends and he's been sick for a long time.

if it isn't true they sure fooled me, check my links and see for yourself.

and when you're satisfied try to show a little respect for the dead.

too true, but he was more than just a celebrity too, many people knew him personally, that's what makes it such a shock.

I really didn't know Chris face to face, but I know he was a really nice guy. I've been with him and RPGone since the FFVI retranslation beta testing. I really don't know much to say right now, the last time i talked to him was about a week ago, I thought he was doing really good, he was talking to us, I even showed him something that i did and even consider me to help him on a future project. It's hard to loose a close friend. He will be missed... I'll stop now or i'll ramble on about him.

I am sorry if he truely has passed on (although I do not know what his contributions are). However, remember about half a year ago when the guy working on the "Ocarina in Time in 2D" hack suddenly "died". It was quickly revealed to be a hoax. Perhaps the internet has led me to be a bit sceptical (and apathetic) when someone posts that someone has died without much explanation on the cause.

This is very unfortunate.

I still remember the outrage from the Ted-Woolsey fanboys, even in this forum, at ChrisRPG for having the nerve to retranslate Final Fantasy 6. The vitriol was staggering and I wouldn't be surprised if a few people rejoiced and danced in the streets upon hearing news of ChrisRPG's death.

ChrisRPG was one of the few proper fan translators on the internet. Because that's all he did. Translate.

Don't understand that Japanese reference? Bad luck. That Japanese reference was in the original script and ChrisRPG simply translated it. ChrisRPG is one of the few translators who RESPECTED the original script. No deductions, no additions. He just translated the script.

You wouldn't be expectiing "Fucks like a tiger" lines from him, that's for sure.

Rest in Peace, ChrisRPG. I hope budding fan-translators can look up to your example.

ChrisRPG is the romhacker, not the translator. Try again.

Oh thats right, I confused ChrisRPG with Skyrender. Skyrender's (the translator) FF6 retranslation was hosted on RPGOne (ChrisRPG's website) hence the confusion.

Well my hopes are back up again since skyrender is nowhere near dead. At least I have the satisfaction of knowing that the evil Ted Woolsey won't be dancing in the streets just yet.

Except no one did. Everyone paused and mourned a little. Why do you harbor such hate for a man to such an extent you let it bleed into a memorial topic?! Why do you stain the dead man's memory with hate, let alone hate based off of false assumptions that wouldn't hold up on a google search?!

You're no better than those you assume would dance on the man's grave. I'd say you're far worse.

Your previous posts would indicate you like to take the moral high ground. Like Ted Haggard (a closet homosexual homophobe pastor) however, you run the risk of looking like a hypocrite.
I.S.T. wrote: Given how he shat up the DeJap board, going so far as to unintentionally mock ChrisRPG's death... Could you just change the password on his account, PM it to everyone so they can have fun fucking with the idiot's current posts, or ban him or something?
I'd like to see what precedent may happen on your suggestion.

I don't think the forum members of Zsnes Board Forum would be comfortable with knowing that any of their accounts can be tampered with at the behest of those in charge.

Normally, I would not suggest such a thing. In fact, you amused me at first.

However, your mocking of ChrisRPG's death went way the hell too far. You pissed on his grave.

I don't see where I am mocking ChrisRPG. I simply confused him with Skyrender, which is a fair mistake.

Let it be known that I would only mock Ted Woolsey and Victor Ireland.

Victor Ireland is unique in the sense that I would still mock him after he is dead.

I spelled it out in the first post, but I guess I'll do it again...

I was saying that bringing your irrational hate of a guy who translated a bunch of video games and is hated by nearly a million people for doing the best he could under bad circumstances into a memorial topic.

That shit isn't needed here. Keep that bullshit in another thread. Bringing it in here mocks the dead.

For the sake of argument, if you want to make a good point, don't mock other living people even after they die.. in a thread honoring a good person. You might as well be practicing necrophila.

On the other hand, you just invoked thread necromancy for the wrong reason.
