Mario RPG dialog graphics problem

Post by ShroudedLayers »

Hi. I haven't been involved with anything SNES in a while *hangs head in shame* but I recently decided to play through Super Mario RPG again... so I fired up ZSNES, loaded the game, and played for a while. Everything was fine until I got into the first town and started talking to people. Whenever a dialog box was displayed a wierd graphical glitch would appear and flicker violently as did the upper and lower screen edges while the dialog box was being animated. I have included a screenshot, but it does not effectively show how annoying this problem is at all. I was just wondering if there was any way to fix this or atleast improve it. I have tried many different ZSNES settings but to no avail. It drives me nuts for whatever reason and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

[EDIT: I also just noticed that all sprites on screen occasionally disappear when i enter a new area or when a cutscene appears.]

My specs and ZSNES settings are as follows:

PC:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
512MB PC3200 400Mhz DDR
128MB AGP8X ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Windows XP Prefessional w/ SP2

ZSNES Video:
1024x768 DR Full
HQ2X
Hi-Res Mode 7
VSync

ZSNES Audio:
Stereo
44100Hz
Gaussian

First of all, are you using the latest WIP version? if not, get it here.

Secondly, post NSRT output regarding your rom image. You can get NSRT here.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Yeah, that was with the latest WIP. I have also tried it with 1.36... same results. Although, since this post I have tried it with SNES9X and it worked fine, I would just much rather use ZSNES. At any rate, here is the NSRT ouput:

I'm going to go ahead and suggest you make sure you have the latest version of Direct X and latest video card drivers.

I remember this bug was reported in the Official Bug Topic. Even if you do have the latest WIP version, it still flickers and have missing sprites in the Inns.

Oh, so it's not just me then. Is it everybody, or just certain systems or something? Actually, I'll just go try and dig up the bug report. Thanks for all the help.
