Nostalgic gaming (ex-'Aqutallion' thread)

This game is a nostalgia bomb for me, and I was thinking of playing it again since it had some interesting gameplay elements. The one thing I remember about it though... is that the American localization was truly horrendous. I mean it was a translation so terrible as to be legendary.

I wonder if anyone ever thought to retranslate it. I kind of doubt it since the game wasn't terribly popular. And now that I think about it, the story wasn't that great to begin with even if you ignore the horrible localization.

truth to teh 104%

seriously, it sucks. better spend those hours on a better game, even if only nostalgy-driven.

Play Brandish instead.

Or not. I'm probably one of 5 people in the entire english-speaking world that likes it.

I'd wait a little bit. King Mike is working on retranslating it, I think.

I hope it's Brandish, so I can play the version where my nemesis wears a cape and a bikini!111

Darn, oh well.

I guess fighting badly translated enemies such as "Badbad" is part of the nostalgia as well. :)

Correctly translated bad guys called 'Chester' or 'Ernst' aren't exactly better.

I'm looking at you, falcom.

Ernst himself is pretty cool, albeit fairly cryptic-emo all things considered. However, having a monosyllabic name that close to some sort of coughing noise kinda ruins the mood.

What next, half-syllable dude kicking ancient civilisation puppies for fun ?

I need to play Oath in Felghana. Is it as good as Ark of Naphitism?

Or, as my girlfriend likes to call it, Ark of Nepotism. <.<

Ernst is a fairly common name for middle aged/old men here.
That doesn't make it any less stupid sounding though. Four consonants in a row ftl.

I'd recommend it. Can't say anything about it being as good as Ark of Napishtim though; I like both.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

And here as well.

Englished version would be Ernest.

As Agozer pointed it out implicitely... it's napishtim.
Na - pish - tim. Not tism.

Oath in Felghana, Ys 3's scenario combined with Ys 6's engine. Probably worth it for a fan anyway, since it retcons a bit of the story to strengthen continuity.
Chester is still a bad name for a villain even in 3D.

No walls were hurt during the making of this game. Maybe.

Which is why Japan loves Tower of Druaga.

Now that's being anal. Ahahaha.

That game's name is the one name I completely don't give a damn about the spelling for, no offense. I butcher it at every opportunity and I do it willfully.

While we're (sort of) on the subject. If I was going to play Final Fantasy V again, should I stick with the SNES version or try to hunt down a copy of the Game Boy Advanced version?

All I know is that the advanced version had two new classes or something, and a bonus dungeon. Worth it?

Hey I'm actually playing final fantasy 5 again. Not that I beat it, but I'm far enough where I've gotten all of the crystal essences and Job classes I think. I have it on my playstation which I've had that game for the longest time. Sometimes I stop playing because I can't decide what Job class and sub class i want to use for my character, in a way choosing the command scheme is like final fantasy 8 but 5 having more choices, thus altering my confusion about what to choose.

Oh yeah, its long been my favorite Final Fantasy. Played the original fan translation years ago, ended up picking up the Playstation version and now I'm wondering if I should be a corporate whore and buy the GBA version as well. I heard they retranslated it which could either be a plus or a huge minus.

I wasn't planning to. Just working on an RPGClassics shrine.
(that I really need to get back to work on. Specifically finishing writing the walkthrough, as I finished screencapping the game long ago. And I think I also finished stitching maps together, which should be the most tedious parts.)
I suppose if there's interest, I could try starting a translation project.
Though I've got several projects with completed scripts I need to finish first.
