I can't install zsnes on linux
You have no idea how long I've been looking for to solve this problem. I'm using an Acer Aspire one with linux linpus lite and I have no idea how to use source code. I just know how to use windows. When I click on open, it says that I should choose an application to open it with. I have gone o further, and I can't find a solution anywhere on the internet.
I did some research and it looks like zsnes runs just fine on an acer aspire one. In fact, it says it's the best emulator for such a computer, but it doesn't say how to install it.
Any help?
I'll check back every day for answers, but you can also respond at linceed@gmail.com
<b> EDIT: I installed Fedora, it took me HOURS to do, but I did it, now I can try and play zsnes.... WAIT
Can you help me, please?

It should be obvious then you want to eitherlinseed wrote:I just know how to use windows.
1- use windows
2- learn how to use linux
It's like asking how do you skate on ice when you only know how to walk. Either you keep to walking or you learn how to skate.

Re: I can't install zsnes on linux
That's not going to be that helpful in general... if I've learned anything from the DOS/9x days, is that there is a lot of power in the command line and people who aren't willing to learn for themselves on what to do are setting themselves up for failure... in this case, Linux.Ph4n70m wrote:Maybe you can help him learn how to 'skate'grinvader wrote:It should be obvious then you want to eitherlinseed wrote:I just know how to use windows.

This is a board about ZSNES.Ph4n70m wrote:Maybe you can help him learn how to 'skate'
He can get much better help from a board made for learning linux.
You don't ask your local butcher to teach you how to skate, now do you ?

but, but power is good!Deathlike2 wrote:... from the DOS/9x days, is that there is a lot of power ...
why wont they like it?
i have no qualm with command lines. The command itself shows power.
linpus appears to be a redhat derivative and therefore will likely have rpm as a package manager.
look for any references to "rpm" in the gui... barring that, you can drop to a console (command prompt) and try for usage of the textmode version (if the manual shows up, then rpm is installed).
if you do have rpm, then i'm sure we'll be able to provide a little more help.
the biggest thing is using linux requires the willingness to research the little problems or complications that come up. if you don't have the patience or desire to do that, you're better off switching to windows.

it was preloaded on his netbook - he didn't install it himself.badinsults wrote:The question is, if you are just starting with Linux, why are you using some obscure version that nobody has ever heard of? I am aware of that. I still put the question out there.odditude wrote:it was preloaded on his netbook - he didn't install it himself.badinsults wrote:The question is, if you are just starting with Linux, why are you using some obscure version that nobody has ever heard of? <pagefault> i'd break up with my wife if she said FF8 was awesome
given the basic question he asked, i would expect he has no clue how to install a different distro, either.badinsults wrote:I am aware of that. <Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

They can run Windows XP just finedoktor_kris wrote:I'm not very knowledgeable about netbooks, however, I'd reckon Windows being somewhat of an unnecessary heavy weighter for such computers. Might be wrong though.
I believe SquareHead ran either Windows Vista or 7 on his, and it worked, however it was sluggish.
that being said, if you get a netbook, be prepared to either buy an external CD/DVD drive or at least a IDE to USB converter (assuming of course you have a spare CD/DVD drive, barring that you can always buy another one.)

I typed "RPM" in the terminal and got this:odditude wrote:linpus appears to be a redhat derivative and therefore will likely have rpm as a package manager.

Possible options for the rpm binary installed on your system.
e.g. rpm --package pack.rpm
considering your distro and you using rpm, I would introduce you to linux, but I suck at rpm terribly
anything with the deb package system is easier to learn on imo cause of apt-get, then after that venturing to tgz or portage and stuff
rpm is just such a pain in the butar
