Cannot associate .smc files with zsnes :( :( :(
I cannot associate the .smc file w/ zsnes
I've tried by opening it, but when i select zsnes for "open with"
it doesn't add zsnes to the program list or associate it with the .smc files
I don't know what to do

first off, what version of windows? the process to set up the association(s) is slightly different between versions.
you'll also want to associate the rom images to a shortcut for the app, not the app itself. that shortcut needs to have the working directory set to the zsnes path, or you'll have various path-related issues for saves, the config file itself, etc.
once you've reported back with your version of windows and the explicit path to your zsnes directory, i'll be able to give you a more step-by-step approach.
that being said, while (if properly configured) it WILL work properly via association, the recommended approach is still to launch ZSNES directly and load ROMs via the load dialog.

Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

Why do you even use an overbloated PDF reader? Try FoxitPDF instead.GORILLA wrote:yeah it's lazy to want your brand new computer to work rightsnkcube wrote:Talk about laziness.
what if you had to find adobe acrobat reader every time you want to open a PDF and then navigate for a couple minutes in the open file page
If you're going to be excessively lazy, at least try to use your brain a little to make the proper effort to make stuff work.

add to that the fact that his analogy is waaay off.
you only put your roms in one directory, unless you're an idiot. you navigate to that directory once, and zsnes remembers it. end of story.
and depending on where the rom folder is, it would be quicker to simply put zsnes in your quick-launch, learn one or two keyboard shortcuts to let you quickly get to the file-->load, and there you are.

Code: Select all
if (init_paths(*argv))

Windows Vista and Seven say, "HAHA, NO!"Squall_Leonhart wrote:doesn't anyone know how to use Folder options > file types these days?
Open the Properties Window for the File, Click the "Change" button of the "Opens with:" Label. Then select or browse for the application to associate the file type of the file.

In response to the ORIGINAL problem posed...
Try renaming the ZSNES.exe application to like ZSNES2.exe or ZSNESgiggily.exe or just something else. Then try to browse in the "open with" dialog box and see if that worked. I had the same issue and I think it has something to do with that "open with" saving a file destination that was later changed and it all got messed up somehow but....yeah...hopefully that works. I am working with 7 now but I had the same issue with Vista too.
