Sprites - Changing BG color layers?

Post by JDubG »

Hey,

I have extracted MKII sprites from the ZSNES. So I delete all the layers except the characters, save the screens I want. I then import them to Paint Shop Pro 7.2, try to rid all the black around the sprite, but it fills into my characters because they have black outlining.

With Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, I have a blue screen so I have no trouble there. So is there anyone to fix this or change colors of the BG screen? Thanks in advance...

I'm pretty sure that background color is set by the game itself, and cannot be changed, without hacking the game. I'd the color of the border in Paint Shop before replacing the black.

Even the background color when you disable all the layers?

Yeah. I've seen it a bunch of different colors, I think. Kinda strange, if you think about.

I don't know why, but you know what strange things developers have done with games. Maybe they changed the color black in the pallette.

You could try vSNES, but it relies on savestates, not screenshots.

Maybe you can work with MKII's pause function.

- Try an snes emulator that works in 256 color mode (zsnes dos?)
- disable the BG layers
- save the screenshots
- open teh screenshots in your favorite paint program
- select the background color in the 256 color pallette (color #1?) and change it from black to pink or whatever.

... or that one, yeah.

Background should be palette entry 0.
