missing save states, help?

Howdy, first time poster. Long time zsnes user.

I recently reuploaded zsnes to my new computer
I was playing through Ogre Battle, I had multiple save states throughout the game(probably about 8 hours in)
today when I went to load them, I got an unable to load message, I opened the rom file and all of my save states from all of my games are missing (i tried a few others just to confirm and they were all in fact gone)
is there a solution to this? is this a common problem? Is it possible that my computer would move the files after a period of time?

any ideas as to where the save files might be or what mightve happened would be greatly appreciated!

what OS (and what version), where is zsnes located, what is the save path, and how did you start zsnes each time?

Did you copy your states along with the emu and rom files when you 'reuploaded to your new computer' ?
