My next project
Im curious to know what the optimal requirements are for the latest version of ZSNES, CPU RAM Video card etc...
What I want to do is build a small computer to run just ZSNES and have it directly connected to my television through my video card, Ill use my controller adapter so esentially ill have a PC bases SNES instead of the original console. That way I can stick a 10 gig HD with all my roms on it and play. Hopefully I can find a small enough case that I can lay it on its side in the entertainment stand or off to the side without having the look of a big bulky box (hmmm maybe ill paint it with the original SNES colors).
Ok well back to the original question what recomendations for an optimal running ZSNES console thats what ill call it.
Right now my PC is a P2.8 1024 ram ati aiw raden 7500 im sure I wouldn't need something quite this powerfull for my project.
Your sugestions are greatly appreciated and very welcome.
thanx eh

or you can use the actual snes box, and put a mini-itx board in it. that would look awesome.

Zsnes is very modest when it comes to hardware.
I think one of those small via motherboards with an intergrated cpu would work well. You could also use a smaller compactflash card instead of an HD. That would make it much quieter and far less likely to break.
You could run zsnes from dos and have it start in the autoexec.bat file.

But let's say if he wanted sound while using his ZSnes, then he'd need an init string on bootup for his sound card... Still, sounds like a nice idea to boot an OS off a Flash Mem module...
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?
NSRT here.

Best AND cheapest way to do this is to get an xbox and mod it.
Its not zsnes, but once you can run any code on the xbox theres an awesome port of snes9x (xsnes9x)
The guy who did it spent alot of time tweaking the emu and sounds so it sounds like original snes, and it shows.
with the xbox and its native tv output chip, its impossible to see a difference in graphics. Maybe the sound is a tiny bit off, but thats native to snes9x

You can run ZSNES on an XBox.

Since people got Linux with SDL working on it.Richard C. wrote:since when?
Haven't you noticed all the input patches for SDL for XBox controllers?

I built a SNES box with ZSNES using a mini-itx board
1x SNES (PAL) - When everything is built up heat is a problem though
1x EPIA ME6000 Fanless Motherboard (it works fine but dont go any lower than this board as i had some issues with the FPS in full screen, also the sound was a bit slow with the likes of VIA EPIA 5000 Fanless Motherboard and VIA EPIA 800 Motherboard)
1x Maxtor 40gb HDD - these are slim so is ideal to sqeeze into small places also i would probly recomend a IDE 2 Compact flash adaptor to cut down on heat (If you build one you will know what i mean)
1x PW200M Snap-In DC-DC Converter - keep the PSU flush to the board
1x Universal 12V DC 60W AC Adapter
I used the original front controller ports and wired them up to the parralel port... Also used the original connecters on the rear of the SNES console.. The PW200M PSU was soldered to the original power Jack so the Universal 12V PSU Block would plug in... For the Audio and Video i got a SNES to Scart adaptor (from lik-sang) and wired the SVideo out and Speaker Out to the original connector on the SNES..
I use Win98se with Zsnes...
The console fully closed up looks exactly the same as a normal untouched SNES but what i need is a front end made up so i can have a menu system that i can control with the joypad...
Its Ok but Heat is a problem!
