Sometime around 1998 for me I guess.

sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

I want to say I came in on .6 or .7
It was the 90s, and there was time for Klax.... wait, wrong thread.
Anyways, late 90s. DOS only. There were separate ASM and C versions.

Ahhh, glorious days of my youth.
Let's just say no one told me about emulation or the fact that I thought emulating consoles on a computer was even possible. At least I didn't join the scene too late (in my view).

Heh, I guess I win this thread -- I remember the news post for the very first public release of ZSNES on Emu News Service ;)
I used to use ESNES before that. Oh, and ZSNES used to use Matt's WWWboard way back in the day. Ah, good times.

And yes, Nightcrawler's right. Emulation is getting even more popular, SNES interest is just fading. Back in ZSNES' prime, I maybe ran into one or two other people who had heard of emulation. But now, it seems like six out of ten gamers know about emulation. Hell, my 30-something coworkers know about emulation these days.

Must have been around 1998-1999 when I first found SNES emulation, and ZSNES. I'd be playing the real SNES since 1992. I couldn't get enough of emulation at the time :P

Almost 10 years later, I'm still interesting in emulation; though it seems the general interest has quietened down over the years (people moving on; new consoles just about impossible to emulate - and why bother?). Plus, the new consoles have their own pay-per-emulation.

I'm just happy ZSNES is still here :)

I never checked any of the boards, but my first experience with SNES emulation was SNES9X .14. I remember when ZSNES was first released, and the whole shitstorm about stolen code and whatnot.

My first experience with emulation in general was NESticle .31, and it amazed me to play Megaman 2 and Contra on my P133 with my dual Gravis GamePadPros!

I actually worked as a maintainer for EmuCamp for a short time in 1998 or '99 - I was thrilled when Zoop (Bock) would let us get the registered version of MEKA.

Ahh, memories...

I am the birth father of both Zsknight and _Demo_, so I've been around the longest. thank you.

no kidding that's like the last release... er. almost.

seriously though my brother downloaded it to check out starfox 2 back before Gid made the patch, what's weird is there was multiplayer and I've never found that version since.

anywho I then got into playing games I had missed first time around and got hooked. lots of RPGs, translated stuff etc.

good times. back with Nesticle and Genecyst before other stuff, and N64 emulation was really popular, back when it was going on while the system was still selling. I think Zsnes is what really got me into emulation hardcore though and downloading every WIP.
Seriously, what kind of asshole makes an old-school 2D emulator that requires a Core 2 to get full speed? >:(
The earliest version of ZSNES I used was either from 1998 or 1999, the laptop I put it on was trashed so I have no way of finding out what version it was.

First began using Zsnes at ver. 0.2 something before. When the 0.4
version that supported Yoshi's Island came about I had to use the
assembly version with no sound in order to get a somewhat playable
speed on Yoshi's Island. Plain good old SMW and Addam's Family
performed okay with sound, however, so I was quite happy and
whatnot.

Good times!

I've been coming to this board off and on since late 2001. The latest version of zsnes back then was 1.337 but my stupid out of date computer couldn't handle it, so I used 1.29 DOS. And I still could only get it to run at a decent speed with vesa 2 support disabled and sound running at 22000hz

I played through the whole of Chrono Trigger on a jerky P133 with 16 MB. It was cool just to see anything from the SNES emulated on a PC :)

Same here. It played REALLY SLOW with Vesa 2.0 for transparencies.

I remember being awesome because triple buffering didn't make ZSNES run super-slow on my RivaTNT.

I realized just now that Zsknight's father is actually dead, so you are a liar.

Haha I experienced Zsnes about the time ESNES was around too. At that time I had a 486. So yeah it's been awhile.
