Usually, whenever a floppy drive start to crap out, I simply buy another one as they can be found for 10 bucks or so...But this particular floppy drive is from my GD3 Snes copier (which I obtained just a few weeks ago. granted it was allready used)
I believe the problem may be a simple dust/dirt problem (at least I hope). So what would be the best way to clean it?
Also, does anyone knows if the Floppy drive in those copiers are standard drives? So if push come to shove I can just replace it?
Best way to clean floppy drive? (copier)

Chances are it's a standard floppy drive and can just be replaced.
If it's not, you may be able to blow most of the dust out with canned air, but you'll probaby need to remove and disassemble the drive to do it.

The heads on a floppy drive are akin to the head that reads a VHS tape. While the heads can become worn, this is actually rarely the cause of a floppy drive failing. Could dirt be on it? Yes, and if so a simple alcohol swab will clean it right up. However, it's much more likely that a failing floppy is acting up because of other problems. The most likely causes are:
1) Misaligned head
2) Worn down gear or worn spindle
2) can cause 1) and 1) can cause 2)
Inside the drive is a simple motor and a set of gears to spin the disk once it's been mounted. These are usually cheap plastic and become worn down over time. They aren't that difficult to replace.
Symptoms of a misaligned head vary from the drive only being able to read disks it formatted to it making odd noises and randomly not being able to read a disk. You can fine-tune the position of the head yourself, but it takes a lot of practice to get it right and you'd need other drives to calibrate it with.
But all of that is much more work than just blowing the drive out with a can of air and, failing that, buying a new one.

what do you mean it's not environmentally-friendly? all you do is take the old drive, and dump it on the side of the road. just give it back to the earth. that's what I do with all my radiator fluid, transmission fluid, used motor oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid etc.
