What are you guys up to, game-wise?
I've got a couple of games I've got to finish. I'm just about done FF6 (in WoR, just got Mog and Umaru), and right at the end on FFX (killed sin, now going in after Yu Yevon, but I'm going to do some side quests first). After I'm done, I'm hoping to play The Nightmare of Druaga: Fushigino Dungeon for PS2 (I love this game), and maybe Dragon Quest VIII (brother got it for me for my birthday, doesn't look too hard ).
On top of that, I'm writing a Chrono Trigger faq. I've only got a few weeks left in the summer, I've got to stop wasting time!
How about you?

Well, I just got Second Sight and Baten Kaitos: Origins for my GC.
I like to say I'm expanding my GC library until I'm able to buy a Wii.
Second Sight is a really good game, although a bit short. Got it for 8 dollars, so I guess it was ok.
Baten Kaitos: Origins plays a lot different from the first one, sometimes for good, sometimes for bad. At least it has nice music like the last one.
This games have enabled me to escape grindarok online.

Just finished New Super Mario Bros (which just didn't do it for me somehow) and am currently going through Metroid Prime Hunters. I guess I'm gonna play some F-Zero GX later.
I'm looking for a good RPG, on any pre-current gen system. How's Baten Kaitos?
Or is it going to be some sort of novelty faq?

Why exactly? There are already dozens on Gamefaqs (and elsewhere) that almost literally pick the game apart byte by byte. There is nothing you can logically add, really.indignation wrote:On top of that, I'm writing a Chrono Trigger faq.

Ragnarok Online 2....
Baten kaitos was fun, I didn't get very far, but the battle system wont let you just keep pushing A, you need to think about where you are and what you have in your hand at all times. What really killed it for me... was the voice acting... oh my god... its sooo bad... and their previous trailer was sooo good for it too. It's like they fixed the translation up a little then couldn't afford the better voice actors. A shame really. From what I hear, it has an excellent story though .

... Ever take a look at the Earthbound ROM? I SWEAR THE PROGRAMMERS WERE ON CRACK WHEN THEY DID IT! JUST LOOK AT IT!

I've got myself addicted to Guildwars. But when I'm not playing that, I'm playing through Zelda 1, quest 2 right now.

It's just always been a top game of mine, and I just think I'll feel a sense of accomplishment after I finished a walkthrough/faqblackmyst wrote:Why exactly?indignation wrote:On top of that, I'm writing a Chrono Trigger faq.

It's a really big game, and apart from that there's probably a lot of other faqs out there for it. You'd have to know who uses the Silver Rock, Black Rock, Blue Rock, White Rock. Every side quest whether it be "The Ghost of Cyrus", "Fiona's Villa". You'd have to be able to list every item in the game and where it is. Etc. Etc.

Oh man, I'm going to cry, I spent like 15 minutes describing the attack system in Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos Origins, and FF Crashed!
I'll better give a few points, before it crashes again:
BK1: A deck for each character, specific attack cards, defense cards and special attacks for each. You can do Straights, pairs, 3-4-5-etc of a kind, using the different numbers on the cards, the better the cards are, the more numbers they have, enabling you to make more combos. You use 3 characters at a time, with a roster of 6, maintaining the decks is overwhelming at first, but it's easy to catch the system. Elemental weapons cancel each other if they are opposite elements, same to elemental armor. Hard to discard unwanted cards. Characters don't level up instantly. Class upgrades are made with items for each character (class let's you use more cards in a deck and in your hand). Special attacks can only be used after using X amount of attack cards, lvl 1 special attacks only need 1 attack card to be used, 5 need 4 or 5, I don't remember. Monsters don't drop money, you need to sell cards and do quests for money. Most of the time, you need to take pictures of enemies to get funds.
BKO: A deck for all, armor/weapon cards have a 0, then need to be used before attack cards (1 weak, 2 medium, 3 strong), if you use weapon card, the attack will be imbued with the element/stronger than normal attacks, weapon cards deequip after using it for X amount of attacks or if you equip another weapon card. Armor cards endure X amount of hits before deequipping. Armor and weapons are exclusive to each character. Max roster of 3. Attacking fills a gauge, which let's you use special attacks, without having to do combos. You can't do pairs or X-kind, you can only do straights, a typical combo is "0 armor/card, 1,2,3 attack cards 4 special attack". You can use 2 and 3 cards by themselves, or skip numbers, but you can't go back in numbers, this enables you to use special attacks wihout combos, as long as you have enough MP. Sometimes, you can relay attacks to hit harder. Characters level instantly and class needs X amount of technical points you get in battle and change at the church. Monsters drop money.
I just got it in a nutshell, this isn't even half of what I typed for BK1. D:
As for the game itself, the story is original in some places, cliche at others. But the card game makes the game refreshing. Yes, the voice acting is horrible, but makes me laugh, so it's a point for it. The music is quite good though.
As you can see, they are quite different games, supposedly, things in BK1 are explained in BKO, so I would recommend the BK1 first. But you could look into a indepth FAQ about the battle systems so you can choose which one you like better.

The only thing I don't know about the game is what the fuck the Power Meal/Power Food does. (Nobody tell me, I want to figure it out!)Mark57Raider wrote:It's a really big game, and apart from that there's probably a lot of other faqs out there for it. Right now I'm doing a run-through for item/weapon research, and I'll have to do at least one more because I forgot to make a note of tech points needed to learn spells. I also need to document how to find all the endings. I recognize how much work there is in this thing, and I'm not claiming that it's going to be easy, or that it won't piss me off

This is a fruitless exercise, especially when stuff like the age old Mynock guide is pretty damn good.. even being old.indignation wrote:The only thing I don't know about the game is what the fuck the Power Meal/Power Food does. You would have to stand out from the rest... and you are better off doing something else with your time IMO.

Oh, that's right. I'm also playing System Shock 2, most of it for the first time. I just hit Deck 4, whereas previously I kept getting owned at the junction between the cargo hold and Engineering on deck 1. Damned auto turrets.

I'm just telling you in advance to prepare for disappointment. I believe there are better guides to write (specialty guides and whatnot).. which will more likely be accepted at this stage.indignation wrote:I'm not in it for fame, I just want to write a guide for the damn game.Deathlike2 wrote: This is a fruitless exercise, especially when stuff like the age old Mynock guide is pretty damn good.. even being old.

Perfect Dark on Perfect Agent. The Area 51 beggining is tough. You lose at least 50% of your HP just for appearing.

You see the guy walking away in the cutscene? That's actually happening in real time, if you let the cutscene roll for a bit he wont be there when you appear.Corronchilejano wrote:Perfect Dark on Perfect Agent. The Area 51 beggining is tough. You lose at least 50% of your HP just for appearing.
