Mysterious speed-reducing processes

Post by neo_bahamut1985 »

Okay, I'm not exactly sure what is causing this issue, or why it's happening..but this has been happening for the past five or six days. I've noticed something strange that happens whenever I close Internet Explorer, and keep in mind that it's not IE's fault saying as this issue was non-existent last week. Whenever I close all the IE windows I've opened, the task manager still thinks it's "there", and usually takes up about 25-40MB of system memory and bogs down most, if not all, emulators. Even more strange is that it slows down the emulators (quite noticeable on SnesGT/Bsnes/Zsnes) every 60-65 seconds. The framerate goes to 30/60 and lasts about five seconds, then goes back to normal, and happens a again. I've been using AdAware, Spybot and Spyware Doctor and still doesn't find anything that could be causing this. So, do I need to upgrade to more RAM or what?

That's a virus/trojan.

My sister's PC had something like that... It takes screenshots every second, that's why it slow downs everything. You may have ~3GB of temp files somewhere in your HD because of it.

Maybe in your %temp% folders, or probably hidden somewhere else... I don't remember.

I finally gave up and only wiped up her HD completely, anyway. ( format c: :P )

Well, I found the Temp folder and it was over 3.52GB!!! Now I also have an issue that popups appear even though I keep the blocker on. Something thing from CiD (?) I already have AVG Antivirus and downloaded Panda Antivirus as well. Don't wanna spend any money and Norton Antivirus has issues with Windows XP SP 1 and 2 (doesn't load and crashes the OS like no other).

I've seen malware programs that replicate themselves ad infinitum in the temp folder, with iterating filenames.

Really? Funny you should say that because for the past six months this hasn't happened...until just recently (a week ago up till today). However, I found another weird problem, seems that there are three iexplorer.exes that are opened, but, if I close all them after closing IE, it seems to be a temporary solution. And yes, I killed the stupid temp folder crap.

Ignorance and IE explain everything.

neo_bahamut, why even bother asking when the answer is blatently obvious?

backup, rebuild, protect.

and, if you keep using IE, lather, rinse, repeat.

stop using IE.

chances are, it either came in thru IE, or from one of your friends.

back up, format, re-install, and learn yourself to stop using IE.

Linux, huh? Yeah, um a lot of programs don't have linux ports yet. PJ64, SnesGT, ePSXe, etc. Sure it's more stable overall and can run on extremely small amounts of RAM, but, as I had asked before about this error is, why all of sudden does it create 3-4 process in task manager? In the past six months I've never seen this happen before. And no, I will not get linux because it doesn't suit my needs. [/i]

program + virus = program + virus loading. load IE and you also load the virus.
