Laptop

Post by Nach »

My company wants to buy me a laptop so I can do work for them when I travel.

They basically gave me a limit in the neighborhood of $1800, and I can get whatever I feel I can work on.

Seems getting laptops these days isn't as simple as it once was, what with every company offering (almost) exclusively broken screens.

Needed Specs:
Normal Screen (4:3, or in worst scenerio 5:4)
Nvidia Video Card
Dual Core CPU
2GB of RAM
SATA HD
Gigabit Ethernet
DVD Double Layer +/- Burner

So far it looks like I can go with something from the Lenovo T61 line or the Samsung P55 line.
Anyone know of anything else, or have advice to offer?

I personally favor Lenovo laptops.

do make sure to get a intel core2duo cpu (for laptops)

EDIT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 834220213R

(it's an open box, but hey. at least it meets all (if not most) of Nach's wants and needs)
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

I will second this motion. Get a Thinkpad T series. I have a T60 - it's a 14" model with a 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, a Radeon Mobility X1300 and some other niceties. I got it for around $1200, and have since upgraded the drive to a 7,200RPM model - I highly recommend it. I've had mine for about a year and a half and it looks and feels as new as the day I bought it - the quality has only gone up since Lenovo took over. Also, it has the trackpoint, the greatest input device in the history of laptops. They have a number of options based on screen resolution, size, and overall weight.

I subscribe to Consumer Reports (both magazine and online). I saved some of their pages for their ratings for laptops. Re-uploaded for your viewing pleasure:
