some options missing

Post by goombapatrol »

i'm kind of new to zsnes (i've had it on my computer for a while, but i mainly used snes9x, until i figured out you could 'rewind' in zsnes) and i have a quick question:

why are some of my options missing under 'filters'?

i was reading this site and it had this image, notably different than mine.

do i have to install additional filters, or am i missing something?
i am using vista, if it matters. :(

also, is there any need for me to use vsynch? when i turn it on i cannot fast forward.

What video mode do you have ZSNES in?

My bet is you're in 256*224. Filters aren't available in that resolution, and the SNES' "high-res" 512*448 mode won't render properly either..

mine is in 512 X 448 R W at the moment.

i just changed it to 'allow filters' and it now works.

That's very much personal opinion.
I'd recommend the NTSC filter, and the s-video or RGB preset as a starting point.

But your mileage may vary.

You need a res of 640x480 before that one becomes an option.

ah, okay.
thanks again.

vsynch and triple buffering:
i've noticed that when either is on, i get a lot less lines across my screen.
is either preferred, or is that opinion as well?

*sighs*
Way to be helpful. Really.

To actually answer your question....
Triple-buffering is generally preferred, as it results in a smoother emulation experience. VSync without triple-buffering typically results in the emulator "hiccuping" occasionally.

This thread bothers me since people don't read the legend that is listed in ZSNES.

Use a D mode.

Optional, but if you hate screen tearing, you will need it. I couldn't tell you why you can't fast forward other than Vista has effectively deprecated DDraw, so that's not really a fault of ZSNES.
