Nope. Nobody. If Konami programmed a Code of some sort, it's a mystery for the ages.

GameFAQs claims you can get 30 lives by doing a Hadouken motion and pressing Start on the title.
I cannot verify it.
There's evidence in the Japanese ROM Konami at least planned a 30 lives code. But I can't find evidence it is still working.
Here's what I know:
00:808A is the ASM to set default lives (3) (set $1E3C to 3).
00:B2BA is ASM to set lives to 30. (00:B2B3 looks like the start of the routine). But I don't see any references (at least absolute).
00:BA12 (ROM $3A12): routine checks RAM $1E3C, sets $1C04 as index to lives setting (0, 1, 2) if it finds $1E3C = 3, 5, or 7. Else sets $1C04 = 3.
00:BA06 (ROM $3A06): reads index $1C04 to set lives (3, 5, 7, 30), using table at $05:8892 (ROM $28892).

Code: Select all

Can't find reference to 00:B11D. Didn't bother checking what $1C0C, $1C0E are.
80/B11D:	2069B2 JSR $B269
80/B120:	B01B BCS $B13D

80/B269:	AD0E1C LDA $1C0E
80/B26C:	D008 BNE $B276

80/B276:	CE0E1C DEC $1C0E
80/B279:	AC0C1C LDY $1C0C
80/B27C:	C00600 CPY #$0006
80/B27F:	B027 BCS $B2A8

80/B2A8:	A528 LDA $28
80/B2AA:	052A ORA $2A
80/B2AC:	890010 BIT #$1000
80/B2AF:	D002 BNE $B2B3	;set lives to 30
80/B2B1:	18 CLC
80/B2B2:	60 RTS
Only controller references I found were:
00:8B26 - reads all 4 ports. Stores buttons held at RAM $20-27, buttons pressed at $28-2F.
Then, it immediately checks if Select is pushed, and if it is, checks if L+R+Select+Start is pushed (quick reset, I guess).
00:B169 - checks if Start is not pushed, or Up/Down is pushed.
00:B184 - checks if Select+Down is pushed (moves cursor two choices at once).
No visible accessible check for Left/Right in the code (lowest bit of $4219), nor any other lettered buttons.

This rules out GameFAQs sound test code (hadouken then X) and Stage select.

he looked through the game code and found that your 30-lives code doesn't seem to exist.

maybe you're remembering the 30-lives code that was in NES Contra/Probotector..?
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

What he's saying is that while yes, there is code, but you would probably have had to add quite a bit of code to get it to work.

Blame yourself for not writing it down/copy+paste it somewhere.

I considered it. I actually said mystery for the ages because I felt I was TOO cheesy.

I truly suspect that there is no Konami-created "code" in the final game, and any reports to the contrary are mere myth. The fact that you've been searching for a year and haven't found evidence of any sort of Code by Konami indicates as much. Surely if Konami HAD included a Code, you would've discovered it by now, so there must not be any sort of Konami Code.

Sheesh.
Start merely starts (or un-pauses) the game, not part of the code.
