ZSNES doesn't work "perfectly" on any Windows version. If you want ZSNES to work adequately, any Windows version bar 3.11 and lower will do, I suppose. Don't be an idiot and try to run the DOS version in Windows, however.

sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

personally verified to work like a charm on XP/Vista/7. the readme says it still supports 95/98/Me/2000, and that doesn't surprise me at all.

Wasn't there some decision in the past (I remember a poll) about maintaining support for windows 95 or 98? For those you could just use the DOS version. If anything, though, I imagine an oldish computer with oldish video card and oldish driver running windows xp probably would have the most success of working, but as long as zsnes is working in vista or 7, which is generally the case, you won't see any benefit from using any different version. It won't effect emulation at all. Only difference is that in vista and 7 you won't get directdraw smoothing, so if you want that, you'll need XP.

I think that's about it.

Lot of 9x machines with soundcards that are ill-behaved as far as MS-DOS is concerned, unfortunately.
Also, gamepad support. It may be hard to get an original Microsoft Sidewinder in this day and age.

DirectInput represents all bits, not just powers of 2 in an axis.

Agozer was probably taking the filename at face value. "ZSNES" used to refer to the DOS port, "ZSNESD" the DOS port w/ debugger, "ZSNESW" the win port...

Except for the annoying "associate every goddamn SNES ROM image extension with the emulator on startup whether you want it or not" issue, I recommend Snes9X.

..you mean that "feature of the OS" is still broken within Snes9X and/or ZSNES? if not, how exactly is it annoying?
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

annoying as hell, but removing the extensions from <snes9xdir>\valid.ext nips it right in the bud.

I thought that file also controlled which extensions it will display in the file open dialogs?
