Final Fantasy VI bug

Post by HunterKiller_ »

I havent seen anyone else post about this before so here it is.
Ive found in Zsnes that during battles in FF VI, the cursor in the menu is sometimes blocked out.
Usually its when a monster on the screen is close to the menu area.
Might be hard to understand what im trying to describe, if you dont get me, then ask for a screenshot and ill get one.

This is a known issue, that's all I can say.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?

Oh ok, thats cool. I hope they are working on it. I find really annoying.
I'm one of those people who HAVE to play their games in optimal performance or not play them at all, especially the old school roms :D

Sorry, but you might not get your "optimal" FF6/FF3 just yet. I don't know of the bug's priority though.

Another bug, on the overworld in FFVI, the map flickers every other step I make. This has been here since the WIPs were released. What the crap!?

A) Not in FF6J
- Or -
B) Not in VESA1 mode on FF6J

But, once again, I'm too lazy to make a brief movie showing the glitch. Pah.

Screen Flicker Bug

I'm getting the screen flickering bug with V 1.40 but I did not get it with 1.36 (I never Played FF VI with any of the wip's). I checked my rom with NSRT but it showed no problems, and I even tried downloading another copy from a different site but the bug happens with that rom too. If anyone can tell me how fix this I would greatly appreciate it as this bug makes the game unplayable for me.

Post your ROM info.

There should be no bug unless you have a bad or hacked ROM.
May 9 2007 - NSRT 3.4, now with lots of hashing and even more accurate information! Go download it.

Are you trying to hack it after that?

Yes I'm using the RPGOne FF VI V1.2 patch, but the patch can’t be the problem as I’ve tested the un-patched version and get the same bug.

Just for reference though here is the patched rom info:

---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
File: Final Fantasy VI (J).swc
Name: FFVI ENGLISH RETRANS Company: Square
Header: SWC Bank: HiROM
Interleaved: No SRAM: 64 Kb
Type: Normal + Batt ROM: 32 Mb
Country: Japan Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 120ns (FastROM) Version: 1.0
Checksum: Bad 0x0127 != 0xA172 CRC32: D1278296
--------------------------Database--------------------------
ROM wasn't found in the database (possible bad dump).
You can try using -fix or -findover to see if the
file has been slightly altered and rectifiable.

Yes the patch is the problem.

Try testing a clean copy again, everyone else reports it works fine.

I'll try a clean copy again but as I said I’ve already done so and had the prob. I won’t have time to test it for a few hours though, I'll post the results then.

AFAIK, the hack only works for the clean FFIII/FFVI with the correct Name. The patch changes the name to FFVI ENGLISH RETRANS so the hack no longer works.

I'd suggest use the US rom, since I would not expect a developer to add yet another hack for this hacked rom, or use Snes9x.

You could use NSRT's -modint to change the internal name back.

And I'm not adding more hacks for hacked versions of the game.

As said before, vesa1 mode is no longer supported and will never have any bug fixes anymore.

I....see.....(Crap!!) Why can't the FF6 ROM be displayed correctly via the Retranslation Patch!? That pisses me off!

Read my post for the explanation, and Nach's post for the solution. Or use the US rom. Or use Snes9x.

So I shouldn't bother discussing the slew of Killer Instinct VESA1 glitches that makes the whole game look like crap then?
