Star Ocean Trouble

Post by Hell_Fire »

Whenever I Try going to Mount Merox at the start of the game it freezes. Ive tried roms from 2 sites and 2 emulators (zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) and snes9x) Also using savestates before it doesnt help.
Can someone please help

It is the savestates that are causing the problem. That game freezes a whole lot, it has many bugs. Reload your save state, and make a regular in-game save. Reset, and load up your save and you should be allright. You really should use in game saves instead of Save States for this particular game.

Have you tried saving before the freeze, and then resetting? This is a the solution to most Star Ocean freezes.
If this does not work, then you will have to scan the roms with NSRT and provide us with the rom info.
You can find Nsrt at http://nsrt.edgeemu.com

tried that and is this the right info
---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
File: Star Ocean (J) [T+Eng1.0_DeJap].smc
Name: Star Ocean Company: Enix
Header: None Bank: LoROM
Interleaved: No SRAM: 64 Kb
Type: S-DD1 + Batt ROM: 48 Mb
Country: Japan Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 120ns (FastROM) Version: 1.0
Checksum: Bad 0x20F2 != 0x13B8 CRC32: 6BA9E08D
--------------------------Database--------------------------
ROM wasn't found in the database (possible bad dump).
You can try using -fix or -findover to see if the
file has been slightly altered and rectifiable.

That basically means nothing, since only the unpatched, original japanese rom image matters. Although if it's any consolation to you, Star Ocean was buggy on the original cart as well.

And yes, savestates can be quite evil when used with SO.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

This is the jap version
---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
File: STAR OCEAN.SMC
Name: Star Ocean Company: Enix
Header: None Bank: LoROM
Interleaved: No SRAM: 64 Kb
Type: S-DD1 + Batt ROM: 48 Mb
Country: Japan Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 120ns (FastROM) Version: 1.0
Checksum: Bad 0x7E19 != 0x13B8 CRC32: C88D3D01
--------------------------Database--------------------------

file has been slightly altered and rectifiable.

Ive had the star ocean rom before and it worked perfectly but I had to format my harddrive.

Ok. Tell us what version of Zsnes you are using.
To be on the safe side, find a good Japanese, unpatched rom, and then download the patch from Dejap.
Rename the patch to the same name as the rom ie. SO.SMC and SO.ips.
Search google for the rom. There are a whole shitload of them out there.

Well, your rom image is fucked. Hunt down an image that has a good checksum. Just because it 'sorta' works, doesn't mean that it's a good rom.

I'm sorry, but we haven't heard of an emulator that goes by that name.
